The 'Handloom Mark' is a symbol of the rich legacy and tradition of Indian Handloom textiles. It was launched by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India on 28th June 2006.
The Handloom mark is Indian Government initiative to provide a collective identity to handloom products produced in India. The Handloom Mark also serves as a guarantee that the buyer is purchasing an authentic handloom product.
It ensures that a product has been genuinely hand-woven by skilled artisans rather than being produced using power looms or other mechanized methods.
It is essentially a rectangular tag attached to the product. The tag will have the “Handloom Mark” logo and a code that which uniquely identifies the producer. Anyone involved in the production and marketing of handloom products can register for Handloom Mark scheme. While a Handloom Mark guarantees the genuineness of a handloom product, several handloom products still do not carry the same. This does not necessarily mean that the product is not handloom. It could mean that the weaver or producer involved did not apply for the scheme.
