Folk museum series.
Inspired by the amazing collection.
My work for an exhibition with & called Nytjar which could be translated to “Uses”. We were inspired by function, shapes colors, stories, materials and textures in the museum. Exhibited Art Museum in Höfn.

Object from the exhibition Nytjar in with & . The exhibition was inspired by the Austur-Skaftafellssysla Folkmusem collection. The museum is opening formally again next year after being in storage since 2012. We were allowed to explore the storages with Björn the former museum manager and WOW it was amazing!

So amazing that I now am curating and designing their new exhibition which will open in March 2027. ✨🪄🔮

Objects inspired by the Folk museum of Austur Skaftafellssýsla.

This object was based on a big misunderstanding. We found a stick with a drawing of hands on it in the collection.They seemed to be wearing gloves. OH a glove drying stick we thought it turned out to be a rolling pin!
When we figured that out I had already made this hand shelf. the hand are a blow up of the hands probably drawn by Helgi Björnsson from Kvísker who was an amazing inventor,maker and designer in Öræfi.

Another object inspired by the collection of the Austur-Skaftafellssýsla Folk museum.
This time I was amazed by a pair of old leather boots. They had been fixed with wood nails and a horse shoe. The pattern of the wood nails was really beautiful and how worn out they were.

Nytjar- exhibition inspired by objects from the Austur-Skaftafellssýsla Folk Museum here in Hornafjörður.
In the Folk museum we found a box full of solid wood shapes.They were used to cast metal objects. When I used them as inspiration I didn’t really know the function of the objects that were cast out of them. They turned out to be very diverse cutlery, electrical plugs, the tire part of an axe in a car and something to make waffles.
There are also a few wood textured painted furniture pieces. I merged the two into these series of objects

My work for our
trio exhibition with & that just finished last friday!

The exhibition was based around our research in the local Folk museum here in Höfn. The folk museum is open again this year after being in storage since 2012. We were so lucky to be able to go into the storages and experience the magic in there.
I will tell more about the inspiration behind some objects in the next few days💥
