Amanda Levete (AL_A) was awarded the 'Exhibition' prize for the MAAT - Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia in Lisbon. Dedicated to visual art, new media, architecture and technology, the MAAT’s 7,000 square meter kunsthalle is Portugal’s new home of contemporary culture. With a flexible interior design capable of seamlessly integrating future exhibitions and a dynamic tiled façade that reflects the surrounding landscape, the museum acts as a bridge between the country’s rich traditional history and its rapidly growing future.

The 'Floating Piers' installation by Christojeanneclaude was awarded the 'Social Impact' prize at the gala event ceremony this week. In 2016 the highly anticipated project was finally realized, decorating Italy’s Lake Iseo and its nearby towns with 100,000 square meters of shimmering saffron fabric. Free and open 24 hours, the installation’s 3km long walkway extended across the placid waters of the lake, linking the island of San Paolo with the mainland in a large scale intervention of line and color. The installation was experienced by 1,5 million visitors.

The 'Distribution' category was awarded to US-based studio Snarkitecture for their intervention for Valextra. An ethereal white environment was created for the Milan flagship store by juxtaposing hard architectural surfaces with airy, billowing adornments. The design envelops the space in a dynamic combination of textiles and materialities that blur the line between one surface and the next.

The weatherproof, quick-to-assemble and sustainable make-shift home for refugees presents a temporary housing solution for aiding displaced families and individuals who are fleeing conflict, disaster and climate change.
