Indy Bindy Fabrics

Indy Bindy Fabrics Independent designer fabrics. All designed and made in Japan. Worldwide shipping. Welcome to Indy Bindy Fabrics!

My name is Aims and I have loved textiles since my mum first taught me to sew as a little girl. As for my love of Japan, it started when I first went on exchange from Australia for a year as a 15-year-old. I was lucky enough to live with a family that also nurtured my love of arts. Ever since then Japan has drawn me back time and time again. Indy, the younger of my two sons, was born in Tokyo. And

the nick name “Indy Bindy’ was given to him by his brother. It was not long after Indy was born that the concept for this shop was born, so I decided to name it after him! So Indy Bindy Fabrics is a culmination of everything I love: family, Japan, fabrics, sewing and supporting really incredible independent artists. At Indy Bindy Fabrics you will find a unique selection of carefully curated Japanese fabrics for makers, designers and sewers of all walks of life. All fabrics are produced in small print runs and many won’t be available again once sold out. So once you make them into your unique garment, it will truly be one of a kind! What have you discovered from Memade May?

I realised why this top isn’t getting enough love even though I love the colours, the mixed prints, the giant puffy sleeves…

It doesn’t have a friend in my wardrobe! I’ve got a couple things I wear it with but neither of them feel like they’re quite right. They don’t let this top sing in a way that I know it can.

So I have a plan! I will likely crop the front a little and then I’m going to find third, and maybe even fourth, print that complements the top to make a really fun voluminous skirt.

The bottoms that I pair it with needs as much energy as the top so it doesn’t drag the outfit down.

So keep an eye out for when I bring this vision to life!

I can’t wait to wear this top more. This is why I love Memade May. There’s so much to learn and discover to maximise the makes we already have 🙌🏽🥳

I’d love to hear what you’ve discovered. Let me know👇

Not a collab, just obsessed with this charm from

Each of my sons thought of a little love note for their mama and used the in-store iPad to write it out before it was then engraved. I love that I get to capture their hand writing at this age and carry their notes with me wherever I go.

I popped it on a my necklace as they have a fab system to easily customise your necklace with the clip at the front and an extender if you like.

I’m all about layering gold chains at the moment so I’ve also got on my Bambola necklace. Found via the ever fabulous . India always has super fun style inspo AND she sews too 🙌🏽❤️

Wearing these with a hacked pattern by . I made the neckline a V and added thin straps.

Paired with my jean jacket from over 20 years ago when I worked retail

Happy Memade May all!

Here’s to taking something RTW and making it better 💪🏽

The memade portion of my fit got a “Love your jeans” at parent teacher conferences today!

They started as a pair of jeans I’ve had for years. I’ve worn them but they’ve never been 100% right. The leg taper combined with the pleats was a little too 80s for me.

I seam ripped up the side seam of my jeans so I could widen the leg. I had a pair of hubby’s worn out jeans lingering in my stash waiting for a purpose. So I cut out the longest possible panel from them, including the original hem. I overlay this panel to attach to either side of the new open wedge at the bottom and on top of the original closed seam at the top to give the appearance of it continuing the whole length of the leg. Lastly, I unpicked the belt loops and reattached them over the new panel.

Ta-da!🤗 New-to-me jeans that I’ve already worn much more!

Have you used your sewing super powers so upcycle some RTW?

Do you have a go-to favourite pants pattern?!

This was my very first, I made three versions back in 2019 and six years later they are still in high rotation. This much loved pants pattern is the by

They’re a great beginner pattern as there is minimal fitting needed and an easy button closure.

If you haven’t made pants yet I highly recommend starting with these 🙌🏽

This month in the Sewciety we’re doing a Let’s Sew Pants Sewalong and I am loving seeing my members dive into sewing pants.
