Have you ever opened a Japanese bento box or enjoyed an onigiri and noticed a small, wrinkled red fruit sitting right in the center?

That little fruit is called umeboshi.

Made from Japanese plums that are carefully pickled in salt for about a month, then dried under the sun. Some varieties are naturally flavored with sweet honey or fragrant shiso (perilla leaves), creating a balanced combination of salty, sour, and slightly sweet flavors.

Why do many health-conscious Japanese people enjoy umeboshi?
Rich in citric acid, which may help reduce feelings of fatigue and support energy recovery after a long day.

• Traditionally believed to support digestion and help maintain a healthy stomach environment.
• Its naturally sour flavor can stimulate the appetite and make meals more enjoyable, especially during hot weather or when you're not feeling hungry.

Umeboshi is quite salty and sour, just one or two plums a day is usually enough. The most common way to enjoy umeboshi is with a bowl of warm white rice. Its salty, tangy flavor perfectly complements the rice's natural sweetness.

Small, simple foods like umeboshi reflect the Japanese approach to longevity—enjoying traditional ingredients in moderation while making every meal both nourishing and satisfying.

The biggest risk is not taking risks.
It's staying where you are.
Manage the risks,
then move forward.

Have you noticed that almost every city in Japan has spacious parks?

Many parks are equipped with playgrounds featuring swings, slides, and climbing equipment. These are designed to support children's physical development, coordination, confidence, and social skills through active play.

They are also places where families, friends, and local communities gather to relax and spend time together. Many parks feature beautiful sakura trees, making them popular spots for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) during spring.

More than just green spaces, Japanese parks help create healthier communities and a stronger connection between people and nature, and everyday life.

Did you know that tofu is also one of the healthiest foods you can add to your diet?

It also contains isoflavones, natural compounds that
may help support heart health, maintain healthy cholesterol levels, and promote strong bones as we age.

One of the best things about tofu is that it's inexpensive
and easy to find in local markets throughout the Philippines.
Whether you're looking for a budget-friendly source of protein or
simply trying to eat healthier, tofu is a great choice.

You may add it to soups, steam it, or serve it chilled with seasonings like soy sauce. Small changes like these can help you enjoy the nutritional benefits of tofu while reducing excess oil and calories.

Healthy eating doesn't have to be expensive or complicated—sometimes it starts with simple foods that have been part of our daily lives all along.

Half the year is over.
Time keeps moving whether we're ready or not. Some plans worked, others didn't.

Every setback teaches something.
Let's make the most of what's left this year.

Stay consistent, keep learning, and make each day count.

生きづらい
Ikizurai

In Japanese, ikizurai means finding it "hard to live" or struggling to navigate life and society.

The most terrifying part of it is how invisible it can be.
Many people who are suffering don't show it. Because of social expectations and the pressure to appear strong, they quietly carry their burdens alone.

They go to work or school.
They smile.
They are polite.
They seem fine.

But inside, they may be overwhelmed, exhausted, and barely staying afloat.

That's why we shouldn't assume that someone is okay just because they look okay.
If someone comes to mind as you read this, take a moment to check on them.
A simple message, a kind word, or a sincere "How are you doing?" can mean more than you realize.

And if you're the one struggling, please remember this:
Your worth is not measured by your productivity, your achievements, or how much you can endure on your own.
You matter simply because you are you.
Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give one another is to let people know they don't have to carry everything alone.

Take a moment to look at the people beside you.

Are they helping you move forward,
or pulling you away from where you want to be?

The right environment and the right company can make all the difference.

Choose your circle wisely.
