Who – AUTL (Africa Upcycles Textiles Limited) is a young company based in Kenya and founded by two fashion designers who have undergone 6 months training in upcycling by an Estonian designer called Aus R**t of RE-USE, Estonia.
Our objective is to create a circular economy in the textile industry, to manage post- consumer waste and further educate others on the importance of upcycling to both the environment and the economy.
What – Our aim is to mainly train and create awareness on upcycling; imported textiles usually
known as “mitumbas,” into high fashion quality products for both the local and international
markets.
We also take part in creating our very own unique items to provide a visual understanding. The
products created through upcycling are authentic (each piece is unique in terms of fabric and style)
and environment friendly (reducing textile waste through upcycling),’with high quality standards in
both workmanship and accoutrements.
How – we create an opportunity for fashion enthusiasts to apply for a 6 month incubator, in which
we train and educate them on the work-around of upcycling.
Further we create a platform for these designers to establish their business and continue growing
and creating their own imprint in the fashion industry while advocating on upcycling.
Throughout the training, We obtain/collect any unwanted/used/worn-out/outgrown Household
articles and fabrics and transform them into a variety of products ranging from accessories, household products, apparels etc....
