Princess Bokon’s Hwarot is the only known Joseon royal bridal robe whose original wearer has been definitively identified. Worn by Princess Bokon, the second daughter of King Sunjo, at her wedding in 1832, it is considered one of the most significant surviving examples of Korean royal wedding attire. Richly embroidered with auspicious motifs symbolizing prosperity, longevity, harmony, and fertility, the robe showcases the extraordinary craftsmanship of Joseon court embroidery. Having been passed down and reused as a ceremonial wedding robe for generations, it also bears traces of historical repairs, offering valuable insight into both royal culture and Korea’s long-standing tradition of preserving ceremonial garments. 🪡🌸

In 2022, RM of BTS donated to support the restoration of a rare Joseon Hwarot from LACMA. The restored robe was later exhibited at the National Palace Museum of Korea, helping preserve and showcase Korea’s royal textile heritage 🌞👑
