What is GSM? 🤔
GSM stands for Grams per Square Meter—the standard measurement used to determine a fabric’s weight and density.
One common misconception is that a higher GSM means better quality. That’s not always true. GSM tells you how heavy or light a fabric is, while the actual quality depends on the fibre, yarn, knitting, and finishing process.
Here’s a quick guide:
👕 160 GSM – Lightweight, breathable, and perfect for warm weather.
👕 180 GSM – The ideal balance of comfort, softness, and durability for everyday wear.
👕 220 GSM – A premium mid-heavy fabric that offers excellent durability, a more structured fit, and a high-quality feel.
👕 240 GSM – Thick, premium, and ideal for oversized fashion and streetwear.
👕 300 GSM – Heavyweight, exceptionally durable, and luxurious—perfect for premium streetwear, sweatshirts, and hoodies.
At RnD Apparel, we help brands choose the right GSM based on the garment’s purpose, target market, and performance—not just the number.
The right fabric creates the right product.
