(English Below)
Sometimes, we’re just one step away from finding who we really are. As a young start-up, we had plenty of moments while building our concept where we second-guessed ourselves, wondering if we were even on the right track.
Through “conversations” with international designers and other professionals in the field, we found a part of our identity, which is the root of our heritage. Others came to our booth and appraised how we carry the origin, the story and history behind each cloth. We learned that our heritage isn't a limitation to modernise away; it's the very thing the world leaned in for. That "slow," "handmade," and "local" are not small words abroad — they're rare, and valued. We came home more certain of who we are.
On day 3 of exhibition, a designer from Central Asia collected a jacket from our New Traditional collections and said, "your designs have uniqueness, heritage and history." He asked to buy that very piece so, we asked him offered to model it for us in return.
Surprisingly, he turned out to be the Creative Director. To have Myanmar handweaving chosen and worn by a designer like him is a true honour. His portfolio is here if you’re interested to look up!
