Jelutong wood is a light, creamy white timber from the Dyera costulata tree, native to Southeast Asia. It is renowned for its fine, even texture and low density, making it easy to work with hand and power tools. Traditionally, it was used in pattern-making, model-making, and carving because of its softness and smooth finish.

• Workability: Jelutong is very soft and easy to shape, sand, and carve. It accepts screws and nails well, though it can split if over-tightened.
• Lightweight: Its low density makes it easy to handle and transport, suitable for models, prototypes, and lightweight furniture.
• Finishing: It takes paint, stain, and varnish evenly, resulting in a clean and attractive surface.
• Not Weather-Resistant: Jelutong is not durable for outdoor use as it lacks natural resistance to decay and insects.
