SBRHS students inducted into National Honor Society
By GEORGE AUSTIN
SOMERSET - In the Dr. Robert Perry Performing Arts Center at Somerset Berkley Regional High School last night, 62 students were inducted into the Edward J. Kaylor Chapter of the National Honor Society.
The requirements for acceptance into the SBRHS chapter of the National Honor Society include quality points that are earned based on grades in different classes through the first quarter of the junior year of students, as well as completing 20 hours of community service before the junior year.
Students in the National Honor Society are expected to uphold the National Honor Society's pillars of leadership, service, character and scholarship. If they do not do that, they can be removed from the National Honor Society.
At the ceremony, National Honor Society President Lauren Kanuse spoke about leadership, Vice President Louise Caso spoke about service, Secretary Patrick O'Donovan spoke about character and Treasurer Michael Cabral spoke about scholarship.
SBRHS Principal Susan Brelsford told the students that what brought them to the point of being inducted into the National Honor Society is a reflection of their efforts, choices they have made and character. As they balance their academics with other activities at the high school, she said they have led by example and are role models for other students. She said the four pillars they were accepting with the honor society should continue to be practiced in the classroom, with their extracurricular activities at SBRHS and in the community. While the students have achieved academic success, she said the students have a strong commitment to learning with integrity, responsibility and caring about others.
The ceremony was led by National Honor Society Advisor Erica Pereira. After receiving their certificates, students took a pledge to uphold the pillars of the National Honor Society.
