The Final Part...
Well, in life, we keep learning.
So, sit back, enjoy, and take a lesson from my experience.
After she presented the auto gele to her group, they loved it and eventually reached out to me. I was excited because I thought all the hard work had finally paid off.
Then came the discussion about pricing.
They negotiated the price as though making an auto gele required little or no effort. I respectfully declined.
They insisted that because they wanted to order in large quantities, I should accept their price. I explained that every auto gele takes time, skill, patience, and precision. It isn't magic.
Behind every beautifully finished auto gele are hours of work, pricked fingers, cuts, and sacrifices that most people never see.
Then they said something that made me pause:
"They make auto gele for ₦2,000 in Lagos."
At that moment, I simply said, "Jesus!" because I knew that claim didn't reflect the true value and cost of quality craftsmanship.
The deal didn't work out, and that's okay.
What I'm most grateful for is that I was paid for the sample piece, and I had the wisdom not to accept a job that would have undervalued my work.
Here's the lesson:
Not every opportunity is worth taking.
Some customers will negotiate respectfully because they understand value. Others will only focus on getting the cheapest price.
As a business owner, know your worth, price your work fairly, and don't be afraid to walk away from deals that don't honor your value. The right customers will always appreciate quality.
