Palazzo Pants
Palazzo pants are women's trousers cut with a loose, extremely wide leg that usually flares out from the knee. Recently, the flare can start from the waist, hip or thigh.
Palazzo is claimed to have Italian roots and it means palace. Connection? Traditional palaces are huge buildings with broad bases and narrow tops. They are also very spacious. Similarly, palazzo pants are also known for being narrow at the waist and becomes wider as it flairs down. They are also very roomy and comfortable.
Historically, palazzo pants for women first became a popular trend in the late 1960's and early 1970's. The style was originally seen worn by gutsy women like Coco Chanel in the 1920's and later avant garde actress, Katherine Hepburn in the 1930's.
Interestingly, women wearing trousers were refused entrance in some upscale restaurants who resisted modern fashion because trousers were considered inappropriate. This posed a problem for women who did not want to wear the skirts designs that were then in fashion.
Despite the setbacks, the 1980's introduced the power suit for women which included the palazzo suit created by high-end designers like Giorgio Armani and Donna Karen.
The palazzo pants style has passed through a number of reinventions in the past 40 years to become what it is today. It is being remodified by designers still.
Palazzo pants are a blast from the past and a must-have in your closet. It is very trendy and comfy and can come in varying hem lengths. It can be easily made with almost any fabric and can be worn to any event depending on the blouse and accessories combined with it.
