📖 CAN THE GOSPEL WE PREACH SPEAK TO EVERY CULTURE?
Apostle Joshua Selman recently raised an important question that has sparked conversations among many believers:
Are some of the messages commonly preached in Africa too centered on our local realities to connect with people in other parts of the world?
He explained that sermons focused mainly on poverty, unemployment, enemies, deliverance, or financial breakthroughs may resonate deeply with people facing those challenges. However, in cultures where those issues are not the primary concerns, such messages may not communicate the heart of the gospel effectively.
This discussion has also reminded many people of what Dr. Abel Damina has emphasized for years—that the central message of Christianity is Jesus Christ, His death, burial, resurrection, and the salvation He accomplished, rather than making human problems the focus of every sermon.
Whether one agrees or disagrees with either minister, the conversation raises an important question for the Church:
Have we sometimes allowed our environment to shape our preaching more than the message of Christ itself?
The gospel is for every nation, every culture, and every generation. Its foundation is Christ and His finished work.
