Disrespect should never be celebrated or excused, regardless of age or social status. If the reported interaction between this young lady and Mr. Elumenu happened as portrayed, it should serve as a reminder that our society needs to take respect, humility and proper communication seriously.
Parents have an important role in teaching children how to disagree without insulting or humiliating others. Society also has a responsibility because young people often learn what they see around them. However, as individuals, we must ultimately take responsibility for our own conduct.
Correcting disrespect should not become an excuse for bullying or attacking the young lady. Let us condemn the behaviour, encourage accountability, and promote a culture where young people can express themselves confidently without losing respect for others.
