Fabric Friday: Velvet

Designers, be honest. How many of you bought velvet because it looked “luxury” in the market...
Then went home and it ate your sewing machine alive?

Velvet is a trap. Here’s why:
1. It Moves When You Don’t Want It To: Cut it once, it shifts twice. That “perfect” pattern piece? Now 2 inches off. 2. It Hates Light: Under phone flash, it looks cheap. Under golden hour, it looks like ₦500k. Lighting is everything. 3. It Remembers Everything: Touch it wrong once. The handprint stays forever. No forgiveness.
But when you master it? It photographs like money. Like royalty. Like old Lagos.

Rule for using velvet: Never cut at night. Never steam it directly. And always buy 0.5 yards extra — you’ll need it.
