How u go to Market – And It’s Killing Their Business 💔✂️
Many tailors think that buying fabric is just about going to the market and picking what looks fine or cheap. But listen carefully — where and how you buy determines how much you’ll earn or lose in your business.
Let’s break it down clearly, because this is one big secret that’s silently separating successful tailors from struggling ones.

1️⃣ Not Every Cheap Fabric Is a Smart Buy
Some tailors rush to buy fabrics from faraway markets simply because the price sounds cheaper.
But when you calculate the transport fare, stress, and time wasted, you’ll realize you didn’t really gain anything.
👉 Example:
If you buy a fabric at ₦1,500 in a far market but spend ₦1,000 on transport, your total cost is ₦2,500.
Meanwhile, another tailor bought the same fabric for ₦2,200 nearby. Guess who’s wiser?
The second tailor! Because she saved time, stress, and still has profit space.
Lesson: Don’t chase cheap prices, chase smart profit.

2️⃣ Every Market Has Its Price System
Tailors must understand that markets are different for a reason.
A big city market may sell cheaper because they buy in bulk directly from suppliers, while a small-town shop adds their own gain.
But if you’re buying just one or two yards, the price difference shouldn’t make you waste your energy and transport fare chasing “cheap.”
Ask yourself: Will my transport, feeding, and time not cost more than the difference I’m chasing?

3️⃣ Smart Tailors Know Their Market Type
A wise tailor studies the market — not just prices but also fabric quality, consistency, and relationship with sellers.
When you build a relationship with one or two trusted sellers, they’ll call you when new materials arrive, give you good prices, and even keep fabrics on credit.
Smart tailors build market relationships — not just buy and go.

4️⃣ Profit Begins From the Market, Not the Machine
Some tailors think profit starts when the customer pays, but that’s wrong.
Your profit begins the day you go to the market.
If you buy wrongly, no matter how fine your sewing looks, you’ve already lost your gain.
Let’s say two tailors sew the same style for ₦10,000.
One bought fabric wisely and spent ₦3,000 total.
The other overspent ₦5,000 because of poor market choice.
Who earns more? The first tailor — not because of skill, but because of market wisdom.

5️⃣ The Secret: Know When to Buy & From Where
Smart tailors don’t buy anyhow or anytime.
They observe when new stock enters the market, when traders are trying to clear old goods, and when prices drop after festive rushes.
If you always buy at peak season, you’ll always pay the highest price.
If you study market timing, you’ll always have an advantage others don’t.

Final Thought 💭
Tailoring is not just about cutting and sewing — it’s also about calculating and thinking.
Don’t go to the market blindly. Learn to calculate everything:

Cost of fabric

Transport fare

Feeding

Time spent

Profit margin

That’s how professional tailors grow from “just sewing” to real business people.

✂️ THE FIRST RULE IN TAILORING: IRONING IS EVERYTHING
Every great tailor must understand this truth: if you don’t iron, your work will always look unfinished — no matter how expensive the fabric or how perfect your stitches are.

Ironing is not just about pressing clothes; it’s about building structure, creating neatness, and commanding respect in your sewing. The difference between an ordinary tailor and a professional fashion designer is often found in the ironing table.

🔥 WHY EVERY TAILOR MUST IRON AT EVERY STAGE
1. Iron Before You Cut
Before you even place your scissors on that fabric, iron it flat.
Why? Because most fabrics shrink or stretch slightly after ironing. If you cut without ironing, your measurements will shift — your client will end up with a loose or tight fit.
Example: You measured 36 inches, but the fabric had wrinkles that reduced its real width. After sewing and final ironing, the fabric relaxes — and your client’s dress becomes tight. One small mistake, one disappointed client.

2. Iron While You Sew
Every seam you join, every dart you stitch — iron it open or flat.
This makes your stitches neat, your lines straight, and your outfit smooth like it came from a fashion school in Paris.
Example: When you sew a trouser or shirt and you don’t iron the seams as you go, the clothes puff up and look bulky. But when you press as you sew, the outfit lays beautifully, giving that factory-finish look.

3. Iron After You Finish
After completing the outfit, final ironing is what separates “just sewn” from “professionally finished.”
It’s the moment you shape the outfit, smooth the edges, and bring out the beauty of your work.
A client might not understand measurements or cutting — but they can see and feel a well-ironed outfit.

🧵 PROFESSIONAL SECRET
The iron is your second needle.
It shapes, smooths, and corrects what your hand couldn’t fix.
No matter how fast or skillful you are, if your work isn’t well-pressed, it won’t speak quality. The iron gives your sewing life.

💡 FINAL WORD
Tailors don’t just sew with machines — they sew with heat and precision.
A tailor who irons with care will always stand out in a crowd of those who rush.
Remember this golden rule:

“If you want your stitches to speak excellence, let your iron do the talking. And 4 low 👉 Wahala Tailor for the 2nd one
