THE WIFE THEY WANTED GONE
Episode 1 – Something Changed
People used to tell me I was one of the luckiest women alive.
"Chioma, your husband adores you," they would say whenever they saw the way David looked at me.
And honestly...
I believed them.
David wasn't a rich man, but he made me feel like the richest woman in the world. Every morning before leaving for work, he would kiss my forehead and remind me how much he loved me.
Our marriage wasn't perfect, but it was peaceful.
For almost three years, I never had a reason to doubt him.
Until one Monday morning.
He was getting ready for work when his phone buzzed.
The smile that appeared on his face wasn't the kind he gave me anymore.
It was different.
Warmer.
I pretended not to notice.
"Who's making you smile so early?" I asked jokingly.
He quickly locked his phone.
"Oh... just one of the guys from work."
Something about the way he answered didn't sit right with me.
That evening, he came home much later than usual.
His food was already cold.
"I'm sorry," he said without looking at me. "Work was stressful."
He barely touched the meal I spent hours preparing.
Instead, he went straight to the bedroom with his phone.
From that day, everything changed.
He stopped asking about my day.
He stopped sitting beside me to watch television.
Even when we were in the same room, it felt like we were strangers.
I kept telling myself I was overthinking.
Maybe work was really stressful.
Maybe he just needed time.
Then one night...
At exactly 11:47 p.m...
His phone rang.
He looked at the screen, grabbed the phone immediately, and rushed outside to answer the call.
I quietly walked toward the window.
I couldn't hear the other person's voice...
But I heard what my husband said.
He laughed softly and whispered,
**"Don't worry... she doesn't suspect anything."**
My heart skipped.
Who was he talking about?
And what exactly wasn't I supposed to suspect?
**To be continued...**
