TITLE: THE DOWRY OF AMARA
The air is thick with heat and the intense scent of roasting palm wine. A traditional Igbo compound is alive with color. Woven mats line the dusty ground. Families are seated in a semi-circle.
AMARA (20s), stunning, eyes cast down respectfully, is dressed in vibrant blue and red George fabric. Her skin glows under layers of coral beads (the Ika-Udo) that drape her neck and wrist. She wears a tall, structured coral-beaded crown.
Her father, ELDER EZE (60s), leans forward. The tension in the air is palpable. Across from him sits OBINNA (30s), the prospective groom, and his kin.
ELDER EZE
(In Igbo)
Have we not presented the checklist? The palm wine, the to***co, the ego oyibo (money)? My daughter is not a commodity, but her value is great.
Obinna's family presents a heavy, ornate wooden chest onto a central table, covered in patterned cloths and traditional symbols. The lid is slightly ajar, revealing stacks of currency and more coral beads.
OBINNA'S SPOKESMAN
We have traveled far. We are humble suitors. This is a token of our appreciation for the lineage you have raised.
The moment is silent. The money is counted methodically.
AMARA stands alone in the center of the frame. She is no longer looking down. Her expression is now resolute, unwavering, and focused forward.
Behind her, a spectacular, controlled PYROTECHNIC EXPLOSION blooms, filling the screen with rolling plumes of orange fire and black smoke.
Sparks cascade around her like golden dust. She is framed perfectly against the chaos, untouched, representing her unyielding strength.
The chest sits in the foreground on the table, surrounded by textiles.
AMARA'S INTERNAL VOICE (V.O.)
My ego-onye-nwunye (bride price) is paid. But this fire is not my destruction. This fire is my purification. I step from one lineage to the next.
She holds her head high, the queen in her own chaotic coronation.
