Have you ever designed a dress for a client, sent the illustration to her, and then sat there waiting for her reactions like, “ what is she going to say?” 😂

Did you know that you can take what is in your head and put it down clearly enough for your client to actually see the vision before you start sewing? It makes the whole process easier.

Do you currently illustrate your designs before sewing, or do you mostly work from pictures, references and verbal descriptions from your clients?

One thing I’ve learnt in this sewing journey is that finishing can make or break a dress.

You can sew the most beautiful style, but if the inside is looking somehow, my sister… 😭😂

Some people can even go as far as checking the dress you’re wearing inside and out before they trust you with their fabrics.

E come be say you use different colours of lining to line your dress. 😂😭

And sometimes, na the small-small details wey nobody dey notice immediately that make people know say this dress was properly made.

The neatness inside the dress matters too.

Because when a client gives you her fabric, she’s not only trusting you to make a beautiful dress.

She’s trusting you to handle her fabric well, pay attention to details and give her something she’ll be proud to wear.

Years ago, a tailor made a dress for me and I couldn’t even wear it.
I ended up burning the dress. 😂😭

The funny thing is, at that time, I knew nothing about sewing, but somehow, I knew that dress was off.
Something was just not right.

This was one of the things that made me learn tailoring.
