Every tailor has that one project that humbles them. πŸ₯²βœ‚️

Mine was a princess dart bustier that refused to cooperate! 😭 But one thing about this fashion journey? We learn, we grow, and we come back stronger. πŸ’ͺ🏽✨

Read my story and tell meβ€”have you ever had a sewing project that taught you a lesson you'll never forget? πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ§΅

Hey besties! πŸ‘‹πŸ½ Welcome to Roni's Wear, where culture meets creativity. I'm Veronica, your style and fashion friend. 😎✨

In today's story time, I'll be sharing my experience with cutting a princess dart bustier.

I started learning tailoring under a roadside tailor who was really good at her craft. When I began focusing on how to cut a princess dart bustier, I discovered that she was a freehand cutter and didn't make use of pattern drafting.

Honestly, learning it that way was quite confusing because she didn't really explain some of the rules involved in the cutting process. But as time went on, she eventually explained everything to me and the other apprentices. If I remember correctly, it was a two-day training session, and we were all asked to cut one as practice.

After that training, I became quite confident in cutting princess dart bustiers, and I continued sewing successfully until I had to stop because of school.

Fast forward to after graduation, I realized that the industry had shifted a lot from freehand cutting to pattern drafting. πŸ˜… Ah, Chim! 😒 I watched YouTube tutorials tire! 🀣 But thanks to amazing creators like and , whose tutorials really helped me. I kept practicing pattern drafting and became more comfortable with it.

Everything was going well until I sewed for this particular client. πŸ₯²

The dress itself came out fine, but the problem was in the bustier area. It wasn't balanced! 😫 I had to readjust the bust section, and honestly, I was so pained by the result because something like that had never happened to me before.

After making the adjustments, I sat down to figure out what could have caused the issue. I came up with several possible reasons (which I'll share another day πŸ˜‰).

Now, fast forward to last month. The same client showed me a style she wanted to sew, and guess what? It had a princess dart bustier! 😭 She even begged me to make sure it came out perfectly this time.

I knew I couldn't afford a repeat of the previous mistake, so I went back to freehand cutting. 🌚 I tried pattern drafting first, but it didn't work out for her. Then I switched methods, and thank God, the outcome was beautiful. πŸ™‚βœ¨

The issue wasn't that pattern drafting is bad. I've used pattern drafting for myself and several clients with excellent results. For some reason, this particular client's bustier just needed a different approach.

So, tailor to tailor, have you ever had an experience with drafting a princess dart bustierβ€”whether through freehand cutting or pattern drafting? I'd love to hear your experience.

Let's gist in the comment section below! πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ’¬
