Why Early Reading Matters

Did you know that 90% of a child’s brain develops before age 5?

That means the earlier we introduce children to books, stories, and sounds, the stronger their foundation becomes.
Reading early helps build focus, vocabulary, and imagination — the three pillars of life long learning

Reading Everywhere

“The world is a reading classroom!”

Read road signs, labels, menus — let reading happen naturally.

Print is everywhere; let children explore environmental print.

Reading doesn’t only happen at bedtime — it’s a part of daily life.

“Every sign, label, and picture tells a story — let your child find it.”

Reading Through Play

“Play is the child’s first classroom.”

Turn story time into drama! Let kids act out their favorite parts.

Blend phonics and play — build letters with blocks or sand.

When your child pretends to read, they’re learning confidence. Encourage it!

“Reading isn’t just in books — it’s in play, laughter, and imagination.”

The Power of Early Reading

Reading begins long before a child can read — it starts when they listen, imagine, and dream.

Read aloud every day.

Your voice is the bridge to your child’s love for books.

Picture walk! Let your child tell the story from the pictures before reading the words.

The best gift you can give your child is ten minutes of reading together daily.

A reader today, a leader tomorrow.

Teachers’ Day is not just a date on the calendar. It is a day to remember the people who light the path of learning, who sow seeds of knowledge, and who shape the future of every society through their dedication and love.

Being a teacher is not an easy job. It means waking up early, planning lessons, correcting books, guiding children, and still wearing a smile at the end of the day. It means being patient when a child struggles, encouraging when they feel low, and celebrating their small victories as if they were your own.

We teach not only subjects — we teach values, character, kindness, and confidence.
Every child we teach carries a part of us wherever they go, and that is what makes this profession truly powerful.

Today, I want to salute all teachers — from the oldest mentor to the newest educator — for your sacrifice, passion, and resilience. You are the silent builders of tomorrow. You are the candles that burn so others may shine.

To my fellow teachers: keep believing in your students, even when they doubt themselves. Keep inspiring them to reach higher. Our reward is not just in the salary we earn, but in the smiles, the progress, and the success stories of our learners.

To our students: appreciate your teachers. Listen, learn, and remember that every correction, every word of advice, and every lesson taught is done with love and care for your future.

As we celebrate today, let us rededicate ourselves to the calling of teaching — to nurture, to inspire, and to make the world a better place through education.

Happy Teachers’ Day to us all!

What are you doing as parent to help that child that cannot read ?

Giving up on that child when you have not done anything to help the child is not good enough.

I have shared in one of my videos 4 things to look out for if your child is ready to read.

Let's keep the children learning.

I remain my humble self Educator Taiwo.
