Yesterday, Aliko Dangote met with Botswana’s President, Duma Boko, in Gaborone to discuss investment, industrialisation, infrastructure, economic diversification and opportunities for African capital to drive development.
One thing stood out: Botswana is focusing on turning policies into actual projects, strengthening institutions, attracting investment and building systems that can deliver results.
The proposed Trans Kalahari railway and efforts to diversify Botswana’s economy are examples of the kind of long term thinking being discussed.
This is what good governance should look like: not just making policies, but creating systems, attracting productive investment, ensuring accountability and, most importantly, executing.
Africa does not only need leaders with good ideas. We need leaders who can turn good ideas into measurable results.
So, what can Nigeria and other African countries learn from Botswana’s approach to governance and development?
