YABA! YABA! YABA!!!
Few weeks ago i travelled to Lagos to get some streetwears fabrics and I decided to pass the night at Yetty Buttons Fashion Academy, Egbeda branch. I couldn’t sleep because it was my first night there. I was awake praying and thanking God for his blessings. I slept for few hours in the morning before heading to the market.
I got to Iyanapaja to board a bus going to Yaba. I sat very close to the window so as to have a good view. Few minutes after the driver started driving, I started sleeping. Ha! Which kind of sleep is this one in a public transport? 🥹 I fought the sleep with everything thing I had but they didn’t work.
I will sleep for 3 minutes and wake up for less than 1 minute… like that like that we started approaching Yaba market then I slept off again… this time it was deeper and longer than the previous sleeping sessions I’ve had. Suddenly, I started hearing Yaba! Yaba!! Yaba!!! bóólè. I woke up and alighted with a young lady. I looked around, the place doesn’t look like the Yaba i know, I kept quiet. In my head i said the young lady must be going to the market too… she should know the way around this area😊
The young lady crossed, I followed her and we exchanged greetings and kept trekking together. After few minutes of trekking into the street, all my body system was fully awake. I asked the young lady “please, which side of Yaba market are we?”. She looked at me surprised and said “I don’t know where Yaba market is. I am a student of Yaba tech and I am on my way to school”. I smiled and felt so embarrassed at the same time, I guess this was the moment i became completely awake 🙈
I told the lady to have a nice time at school. I went back to the main road which took me about 5minutes or more. I then asked for direction from the women selling ‘Jedi’ and they redirected me to take another bus going to Yaba market.
