4TH IKOT OBIO ATAI MAJOR CONVENTION
SUNDAY DIVINE WORSHIP

SERMON: Apostle G. E. Akpan
THEME: The Comfort Of The Known Voice

MESSAGE:
There are two things embedded in the theme, which are; "known voice" and "comfort".
In contexts of previous sermons, these terms has been properly elucidated.
If there are known voices of comfort, there are oppositely known voices of discomfort. For instance, the voice of a growling and groaning lion and the hooing of an owl bird in the night, are voices that instigates fear, alert of danger and discomfort.
The very voice of the devil is filled with terror, enormous amount of fear and enticement for sin. He puts his words in the mouths of men who have given themselves up to him to speak with voices of discomfort to their fellow brethren.The scriptures in Col. 2:8, admonishes that we should not be prey to the craftiness of the philosophy of men.

It is pertinent that we know that these voices are temporal. As It was preached to us on the sub-theme; "The christians' sensitivity to the dictates of the known voice". It is only the children of God, who have consecrated themselves to Him that can know His voice and distinguish it from other voices.

The ultimate known voice, which we have heard in all the context, is the voice of God. And this very voice brings comfort in diverse ways, affecting the lives of believers, for the sole purpose of bringing them to Himself in consecration.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF THE KNOWN VOICE OF GOD:
1. It goes with forgiveness (Mark 2:5)
2. It goes with commandment (Exodus 8:1, Matthew 28:19, John 15:19): The commandment of God to every believer is to go into the world according to the Gospel of John and make disciples. This commandment saddles christians with the responsibility of bringing every man to the knowledge of the comfort of God's voice.
3. It goes with instruction
4. It goes with mercy: From the scriptures, according to John 20:15, God showed mercy to Mary by comforting her by revealing Himself to her.
5. It goes with Peace: In the midst of fear, the voice of God comforts. As in John gospel chapter 20:19, where God spoke peace into the hearts of the disciples when they were in despair of the terror of the Jews.
6. It goes with covenants and promises (Genesis 9:8-17)
7. It goes with hope and assurance (John 14:1-13)
8. It goes with liberty and deliverance.

Conclusively, brethren, to whom God has given grace to be sons of God, God is bringing comfort that will be evident in the diverse functions aforementioned. In all areas of your life, include Jesus so that before burdens and storms weigh on you, He will be there in comfort to bring peace through His voice, as He did with His disciples. The sacred hymn number 222, comforts christian saints in the hope of God's known voice. So, do not faint nor should you loose heart because the comfort of God is neither quenchable nor exhaustible. It sustains you in time of pain and fear and gives liberty and victory.

‎Sub-theme: Unlocking Your Growth And Breakthrough By Obeying His Voice.
‎Text:Luke 5:1-9

‎Message
‎The sub-theme contains two important words; Obey and voice. To know the voice, you must have faith in God, you must trust God.

‎When you hear the voice, you have to practicalize it. A voice comes upon every man according to the words of their destiny, meaning the voice a man hears is not the same voice another will hear.The voice we hear depends on where we are going to.

‎ When Moses was rearing his sheep in the bush, he heard a voice that called him saying "put off your sandals for where you stand is a holy ground " that encounter (the voice) changed him. God asking Moses to removed his sandals symbolizes separation and when God calls someone, He sets them apart for himself.

‎The voice of God changes a man. He will cause you to let go of those things you had and then He will empower you by Himself.

‎ some of us are still serving God with our old nature, but when you hear the voice of the Lord, you will be changed completely.

‎ Five types of voices to hear from God:
‎1. The voice of promise: Every man has a dream, and that is the future of that man
‎2. The voice of instruction: When people hear the voice of promise from God, they become excited but please relax and hear the voice of instruction which you must obey.
‎3. The voice of Warning: When you heard the voice of promise, you were excited so you did not listen to the voice of instruction and then when God sees you going the wrong way, He gives you warnings.
‎4. The voice of Awareness: if you listen well, you will hear him well.
‎5. The voice of Judgement: The voice of Judgement comes with two results;
‎-The aspect of mercy: Job 22:30, Hosea 11:7-9.

‎In conclusion, Faith is accepting the truth of who God is (‎Genesis 15:6,Romans 4:3).
‎Trust is the practical obedience, actions taken because of their faith.
‎Obedience means to follow rules, commands or instructions of a supreme authority.
‎
‎To differentiate between faith and obedience using Abraham who had faith in God, He accepted the truth of who God is.
‎

Sub theme: The Christians Sensitivity to the Dictates of the known Voice
Texts: Mathew 11: 12-15; John 27;1; 1 kings 19: 10-13; Mathew 24: 4-13.

Message
Meaning of Comfort: Comfort is the act of giving strength, encouragement, peace and hope to someone who is experiencing distress.
The voice and word of God is powerful, it can take you up and can also bring you down.
Spirits dwells in a man , we must test the Spirit and be able to recognize the voice of the Lord.
Voice of the Lord is known to the church and as Christian in the church, works in the church represents the kind of Gift you possess . If it is the gift of helping the church or one that will destroy the church.

Christ sent the Comforter to the church which is the Holy Spirit and we must all possess that spirit and if that spirit is not in you, you will bring distress and trouble to the church.

Sensitivity is the ability to notice, recognize and respond accurately to discernment and act according to the voice of God.

Dictates are instructions and guidelines to follow accordingly.

Elements contained in the voice of God:
1. The true voice of God brings guidance, protection and peace to the church (Exodus 19:19, John 10: 27).
2. The voice of the Lord speaks to instruct and encourage believers. (John 14:1).
3. The voice of Jesus Christ teaches and reveals the truth.
4. It is the voice of the Angel which spoke to Mary that she will conceive
5. The voice of the Lord is the voice of the prophet (Jeremiah 10).
6. The voice of wisdom which speaks directly to you.
7. The voice of conscience.
8. The voice of the enemy which deceives and lead people away from God's plan (Isaiah 9:8).

Things you should have to get familiar with the voice.
1. Allow the eyes of your mind to be enlightened.
2. Open your ears of the spirit and open your heart for the word of God.
3. Your realm should be trained by the word of God.

How to recognize the known voice:
1. The spirit of truth acknowledge that Jesus Christ came in the flesh and agrees with the teaching of the Apostles in the bible
2. It leads people towards God.

Practical ways to recognize the voice:
1. Compare the voice with the scriptures.
2. Check if it exalts Jesus or it exalts men.
3. Listen and pay attention to the voice.

In conclusion, there are voices that disrupts us which are not the voice of the Lord, but you shall overcome them. As you are returning, the comforter will go with you to guide you and give you comfort.

Sub-theme: "Identifying strange voices by the Holy Spirit Guidance".
Texts: 1st Samuel 15:13-22; Acts 5:1-11

Message
The Spirit of God made me to know that there are people that serve God on the surface in their own thoughts.
From the scripture that was read to us, we will see the number one citizen in Israel which everybody looks unto him, expecting him to use his wisdom to handle the situation.
But one day, God spoke to him to go to a nation with directive on what to do; to kill everybody, both male, female, children and animals. It was not just a place, it was a nation. Saul would not have gone there or takes such directive lightly, but he went and do things his own way and some of us are like that.

To identify strange voices through the leading of the Holy Spirit, someone like Saul having heard from God, would have sat down to examine why God sent him on such errand, but he acted against the directives from God.

If there is any responsibility that has been saddled upon you, you should do it with honesty, that was what David said in the bible, that he hide His the words of God in his heart, that he might not sin against God.

In this convention, I do not want God's children to serve and go empty handed, that is why God has instructed me to come tell you to serve God with diligence and abide by His rules so you will be rewarded accordingly.

Acts 5:1-11 shows us a story a couple that owns everything and decide to sell their riches and Share it to the needy, but they sold and kept part and then the spirit of God revealed to Peter that the proceeds were not all that was sold. There are 3 things to note that

1. There was Selfishness

2. No commitment

3. That is sin

As we are going back, use the spirit of God and look into the way of God and do his things with the fear of God, that God that sent you, he might destroy you, if you want to do it against God.
Use God's word yo console yourself that you will be rewarded with good deeds.
If you have been coming to convention and go empty handed, go and realign your ways and it may be well with you.

May this new year bring me peace, happiness, success, good health, and endless favor. May my efforts be rewarded, my dreams come true, and may I never lack people who truly care for me.
