like, really know me,

you'd know I'm a die-hard "one packing" girl 😄😄. Rain or shine, stress or peace, my hair stays tucked away in one pack. It's just... me.

But today, I did something different. I loosed the rubber band and let my locs come out to play 😍😍😍😍.

And oh boy... I dey trip for myself right now, no lie.

Almost 8 years with these locs, and somehow they still surprise me. Some days I forget just how far this hair journey has come the good days, the "why did I do this" days, and now... this.

Look at that gorgeousness 😩🔥.

Free, full, and doing the absolute most as it should 😜😜😜.

Sometimes you just have to let your hair down (literally) and remember why you started.

I went to Costco the other day looking for something completely different, and somehow walked out with a pack of "Spicy Sardines" instead. As a Nigerian now, the word "spicy" made me interested because every thing here is either sweet or bland.

I prepared for fire, sweat, the whole experience.

I opened it ready for war. What did I find? One single dry pepper flake, just lying there looking tired, like it clocked out before the shift started. That was the entire spice budget. I bit in expecting a reaction and got... nothing. My tongue just sat there confused, like "was that supposed to do something?"

Because real Nigerian pepper would've had this can under a warning label. people reaching for water, sweating in the dead of winter. This one? My Toddler who would usually shout "hot" when he ate something spicy ate it without a flinch.

Lesson learned: if you're Nigerian and you see "spicy" on a can over here, lower your expectations immediately 😂🇳🇬🇨🇦

If you grew up in Warri and environs, you already know who I'm talking about. That woman who used to roast bole and fish by Capitol Hill Hospital. It's been a minute don't even know if she's still there.

But that Titus fish (Skumbia, for my Warri people) hit different. Well sauced, smoked to perfection. Not gon lie, I was always there for the fish more than the plantain 😂

So I closed from work this evening and just started craving something old. Opened my freezer and this big Titus fish was staring right back at me like it knew. Ten minutes later I'm in the kitchen trying to recreate that sauce from memory.

Boyyyy and then I started craving abacha too, so I mixed that up as well. Only thing missing was ugba and the one I had at home wasn't even fermented. Like… what is unfermented ugba even doing in my life 😭

Some cravings are really just memories asking to be fed. Didn't come out exactly like hers, but it got close enough and honestly, close enough hit the spot tonight 🐟🔥
