Well, I was taking a Phd in Archaeology in Portugal, my home country, and then I moved to Amsterdam in 2011 with my husband. After a while my mother in law gave me a sewing machine and then I remembered my childhood when I made rag dolls and clothes for them in the houses of my grandmother Lena and my great-grandmother Carolina, memories that I hold in great regard. I started trying to do some thi

ngs to offer to friends and family, reading some books and learning more about sewing on the Internet. After a while the family grew (I have a lovely boy now with 18 moths), and I fell in love with making accessories for babies. In 2013, with the support of my husband, I decided to go forward with this business, so I register it and opened my online store. I seek that all my products are a reflection of the quality of the materials I use - mostly 100% cotton - and the amount of time I spend making every item for sale. The fact that they are 'handmade' means, for me, that they are made with lots of love and care and great attention to detail.

Hey everyone, it's me, Perestrella...
This isn't easy to write, but it's time to share an update about the store...

For those wondering where Perestrella Handcraft has been since our last market on June 18, 2023, the answer is a journey.!

A tough one.
I've been battling mental health struggles, specifically deep depression and intense burnout. It's been a long road, but one that ultimately led to a clarity I desperately needed: an ADHD diagnosis. This explains so much, and it's given me the tools to understand myself better and start the healing process.

So, this isn't an end; it's truly a "see you soon." Perestrella Handcraft needs a pause while I focus on rebuilding and thriving. It's about self-care, growth, and coming back stronger.

Thank you for every single one of you who supported my dream, purchased a piece, or just sent a kind word. Thank you for being such an incredible community. Your support has been a light through some dark times. I'm excited for what's next, even if it's a little unknown right now.

I'm so grateful for this journey and I can't wait to see what the future holds... Stay tuned for updates, and remember to be kind to yourselves a d to other around you... ❤️

Our new collection pretend also to be INCLUSIVE. As a parent of a child with special needs, I know the diverse sensory issues that come with clothing. Kids on the autism spectrum are sensitive to clothing tags, seams, and textures...

Our new collection, try to be as sensory-friendly as possible. The clothing usually has no tags, has flat seams, and is a looser fit to help calm an autistic child’s nervous system.
