A wonderful afternoon in the garden yesterday with lovely ladies who wrote beautiful reviews for my book. 🌞 Kind people, cool drinks and lots of garden talk on a warm summer day, who could ask for more? 😊 Of course we picked flowers from the garden too. Roses and Dahlias. ❤️ My goal for this year was to learn more about growing roses. I always imagined they would be hard to grow. Still learning about them but it's all much less complicated than I thought it would be. And so enjoying their wonderful colours and scent!

I love the smell of Dahlias too, but it's the stems that smell lovely when you cut them, not the flowers themselves. Dahlia 'Karma choc' does really smell like chocolate, but that's about it.
We're growing 15 Rose varieties, mostly from David Austin. My favourite so far is 'Summer song', it's such an unusual colour and gorgeous smell. 🤗🌹 @ Leiden, Netherlands

Playing with flowers is my favourite thing in the world. And growing them of course. 😉 In August when there is such an abundance of flowers it sometimes feels like a huge reward for all the work we put into the garden. Dahlia Peaches 'n cream is a variety I had been looking for for years, so excited to have it growing in our garden now. August in the garden. Dry, warm days ahead in the Netherlands. We're watering our plants every morning or evening or both some days! Try not to water your plants in the middle of the day unless they are really wilting. The water will evaporate too quickly and could possibly damage the leaves with the sun shining on the water droplets. 🤗🌸💚💦 @ Leiden, Netherlands

Part garden, part wildflower. I love using wild flowers in arrangements, and adding Cosmos and Dahlia flowers from the garden. There is an entire field of Wild carrot (Ammi majus) near our garden which is not only a beautiful sight but so useful for arranging. Salmon Dahlia 'Preference' from and Cosmos 'Rosetta' from . 😊🌸💚

Late July flowers from the garden. Dark red Rudbeckia 'Cherry brandy' (picture 5) is one of my favourite plants in our garden. I sow new ones each Spring, but this year my Rudbeckia plants from last year also survived the mild winter so now we have a lot of them! 😊

Dahlia 'Soulman' (picture 4) from is new to our garden, it's also a new favourite. 🤗 Picture 7 is Amaranthus 'Red army' another plant I love to grow from seed.
