Today, May 1st, on Workers’ Day in Cabo Verde, not only human effort is recognized, but also the essential role of the donkey in rural communities. Often underestimated, this animal symbolizes resilience, humility, and tireless work, serving as a fundamental means of transport for carrying water, food, and other goods. Its presence reflects the connection between people and the land, representing values such as resilience and dignity. Valuing the donkey is also recognizing invisible forms of labor that sustain daily life and ensure the survival of many families.

Located on the island of Boa Vista, the village of Rabil is an important cultural and traditional center. Their adaptive intelligence and unique greenish-tinted fur make them distinctive figures in Cape Verde's modern wildlife.

During the colonial period in Guinea-Bissau, many Cape Verdeans from Cape Verde moved there because of difficulties in their homeland. As they had more education, many worked in administrative jobs and helped the colonial government. This gave them some advantages but also created differences with the local population. There was cultural exchange, but also conflict. Later, these differences were questioned during the struggle for independence, led by Amílcar Cabral.
Despite a very strong historical connection and unity through the same liberation movement, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau still have issues to resolve.
