Edward’s Game Boy Camera works begin with a device never intended to make “serious” photographs. Captured entirely through an original late-1990s Game Boy Camera, each image is left exactly as the machine recorded it. There is no editing, retouching or digital manipulation. The imperfections, lost detail and crude pixels are preserved rather than corrected.
When enlarged, those limitations become something else. Pixels become marks. Digital noise becomes texture. Familiar subjects begin to feel less photographed and more remembered.
There is a tension between nostalgia and permanence in the work. A piece of childhood technology, designed for play and destined for obsolescence, is given the scale and presence of a traditional artwork.
By refusing to improve the image, Edward allows the technology to remain honest.
A small moment, caught inside an obsolete machine, made large enough to remember.
