"Did you know Analy before you started Chicha?"

I was asked this today, and the honest answer is: no.

No, I didn't know her before my trip back home last year. But the moment I saw her market stall, I knew I had to stop. Her woolly treasures caught my eye, but it was her story that stayed with me.

Analy works with a network of 15 women who craft and hand embroider kids knitwear from their homes to support their families. As we chatted, I remember thinking: I have a feeling Iโ€™ll see you again.

I bought a jumper for Isla, got Analyโ€™s contact details, and couldn't stop thinking about them when I carried on traveling.

I met a lot of talented artisans during my trip but my mind was already made, after a few weeks I went back to see her and told her I wanted to take a dozen pieces with me back to my new home in NZ. The rest is history.

Today, every Chicha jumper carries a piece of that journey, from the hands of women crafting in Peru to little adventurers exploring NZ. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟโค๏ธ

Thousands of kilometres apart, my two homes share the same sky. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

Growing up in Peru, I learned that the Incas saw the cosmos as a living world, looking to the stars to guide the seasons, the harvest and everyday life. Now raising Isla here in NZ, I look up at the Matariki cluster and feel that deep sense of connection, a time for remembering the ones we've lost, reflecting, and coming together.

For our family, it felt like the perfect moment to look back on a time we were wrapped in total kindness. A couple of years ago when Isla was unwell, the Ronald McDonald House in Christchurch became our safe haven during one of the hardest chapters. Itโ€™s a debt of gratitude we will never forget. โค๏ธ

In the spirit of Matariki, we packed up the car boot with our jumpers and donated them to the Family Room at Kew Hospital. My hope is that these tiny knits bring warmth and smiles to the children and families who need them most right now.
