Was in a vision that came to me to start drawing an out fit that would allow the hair to emerge from an opening in a hoodie. I started by drawing this new idea and eventually took it to a designer after a few attempts of sewing a few design pieces, we worked on it until we were happy with the outcome. They were the 1st series 'The rectangular series". Zipped up hoodies were created and then our be
anies, caps and skoodetz (scarf, hood and the opening that was called Jetz). I then applied to go on a fashion designing course to upskill on my already sewing skills through learning at manual classes at intermediate then high school to teen age and started working in a sewing factory. I went on creating my next series "The Diamond series where the jets change to diamond shape. I now have created other clothing in the Owtahea (outer hair) ranges from dresses to other gears. With untold ideas, My target was mainly, the long haired in the family as I noticed when I wore caps, beanies etc they would either go out of shape or didn't fit well because of my thick Polynesian curly hair back then. You will see different design pieces showing as I create some out of it, but amazing pieces and put them on line. Owtahea 'Diamond series' had been introduced to the public where my pieces were put in the street-wear and the collection range shown on television CUE200 on sky at Hokonui 2015. Sadly and with luck NOT on my side, that year they decided to have all models hair tied down, so the full potential of my design wasn't seen. Back then 8 yrs passed from 2007, to 2015 and thats when I showed the public this design called OWTAHEA.....
WELL anyways ... updating to 2023 I can only share Owtahea's story. There have been similar creations of an opening coming out of a cap/beanie, so it is good to see like minded people with the same visual thinking who were getting their designs out, well done to us all for at least giving it a try, and some succeeding in this time! Namaste to You guys & gurls. Thank you
