Shades of grey, chartreuse and cream, light rain making circles in the water of a stream, morning dew settled in the grass over night, below the overcast sky lit by the morning sunlight.

Cozy inside with a hot cup of tea. Blankets and cushions, sounds perfect to me! Comfort comes in many a hue, so what does comfort mean to you?

The dress so nice we made it twice!

This dress was a remake of a clients favourite which had been worn to death!

I used the existing dress to pattern make and recreate it (x2!) in a high quality merino fabric.

Do you have any favourite garments that you’d like in another colour/length/fabric or to change the design slightly?

PM me here or on my Kayla Made page.

Another of the upcycled retro floral cushions I created.

This one has the opening at the back, and a shiny green cord trimming the edge. The chord was a part of my late grandmothers sewing supplies. It was lovely to reuse, especially as she collected and saved many different items to reuse throughout her own life.

I love the mixture of colours in this one!

I was lucky enough to get to teach sewing lessons to small groups of kids, for the . If you’re in Wellington look to them for your sewing needs! The owner and staff are absolute gems and the store is so lovingly laid out, with gorgeous stock!

Here are the EcoSystem themed tote bags that I designed for the kids to make. Each one has an interactive element and is lined with an inside pocket.

It was so fun to create them and to teach and meet the kids, and see them with their finished bag!

This is one of a series of upcycled retro floral cushions I created from vintage square store samples. I paired them with complementary backing fabric and used collected preloved buttons or zips, for fastening.

Each one an individual, unique addition to the home!

Here are some detail shots from a custom made pair of tapered, tailored men’s pants that I created for an American friend who was leaving the country.

These pants are made from wool suiting, and paua buttons.

They feature double jett back pockets, an invisible button up fly, and a permanent crease sewn down the centre front of the leg. All together these features make for a low maintenance, long lasting, beautiful pair of pants that are a lovely reminder of his stay in Aoteroa.

Tailor made to measure.

Kia ora and welcome to this space!

My name is Kayla, and I have recently moved to Tāmaki Makaurau/ Auckland, and am based on the North Shore in Torbay. I am so excited to meet members of the community, and be able to offer my sewing skills and creative services.

It is an undeniable fact that we are interwoven with nature, we are a part of the whole, and I am so grateful for the beauty and diversity that we get to live amongst.

"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children"

A bit about Me and the Environment:

How can I take responsibility for my impact on the environment? On a personal level I have been able to get to the stage where I am making my own oat milk, not eating meat or dairy, buying my dry goods from a refillery (I use Good For in Auckland, a native tree is planted for every purchase made!) and fresh produce bag-less. I buy second hand for probably 95% of what I own, buy NZ made as much as possible, and am doing what I can as a gardener, planting trees, working on soil health and growing our own food.

A bit about Kayla Made and the Environment:

As a business I intend to mend textile based items that may otherwise end up in the landfill, and create long lasting garments from second hand fabric. I collect good quality pre-loved haberdashery, such as thread, zips, buttons and fabric to use with customers, and for my up-cycled fashion label which is in the works! I would love to work with clients as locally as possible to reduce carbon emissions through travel.

The seed for Kayla Made was planted some time ago, and I look forward to watching it grow. And the many connections to be made
