2. Proper visual development – A child’s visual system continues to mature from birth until about 7–8 years of age, with the most critical period occurring in the first few years of life. Clear, balanced visual input to both eyes is essential for normal vision.
3. Accurate prescription of glasses – Understanding what is normal for a child’s age (such as expected hyperopia in infants and toddlers) helps clinicians decide when to prescribe spectacles and when to monitor refractive changes.
