The tough, olive drab-hued M1956 canvas load carrying equipment system replaced the M1910, M1923 and M1945 systems and was issued to US Army units in the early 1960s.

Lighter materials like nylon helped the M1956 system evolve into the M1967 system, parts of which were used all the way until the 1990s. Here's your handy gear guide:

You can follow this if you're collecting the gear of a helicopter or a low-flying fixed-wing scout plane pilot (like an O-1 Bird Dog or an OV-10 Bronco).

Never as popular as infantry gear, flight kits have a small but strong following. Illustrated below are:

Vietnam Gear PH brings you an exclusive tour of the ๐ƒ๐ข๐ž๐ง ๐๐ข๐ž๐ง ๐๐ก๐ฎ Battlefield! ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ

A decade before the first battle with American troops, the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) was already able to defeat tens of thousands of regular French troops in a standup battle.

The Battle of Dien Bien Phu took place from March 13 to May 7, 1954 and directly ended France's 70-year rule over Indochina - present-day Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

A history professor with no prior military experience named ๐•๐จ ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฒ๐ž๐ง ๐†๐ข๐š๐ฉ famously had his army drag and fortify enough cannons and anti-aircraft guns up the mountains around this valley to seal its fate.

16,200 French Colonial forces were killed or taken prisoner after the battle, making it the clearest victory of a guerilla army over a colonial one.

๐•๐ข๐ž๐ญ๐ง๐š๐ฆ ๐†๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐๐‡ recently paid homage to the brave Vietnamese and French soldiers who fought and died in this legendary place.

Here's another handy guide for anyone who wants to reenact as an Vietnam War ๐‹๐‘๐‘๐ ๐’๐œ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ or ๐’๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐…๐จ๐ซ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ / ๐Œ๐€๐‚๐•-๐’๐Ž๐† ๐Ž๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ or ๐“๐ซ๐จ๐จ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ.

In Vietnam, LRRPs (Long Range Recon Patrols) acted as scouts to find enemy targets for strike aircraft or regular / 'line' infantry units. Teams operated in four to eight-man squads.

Their job was mainly to observe enemies, not engage them.

LRRPs (pronounced ๐ฟ๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘๐‘ ) could customize their uniforms and gear. They carried lots of water, ammo and unique, lightweight, freeze-dried rations.

Shown in the illustration are an olive drab spotting scope, binoculars, a camera for photographing enemy installations and positions, two starlight scopes, colored pen flares, an SDU-5/E distress beacon, a late-model anglehead flashlight, a signal mirror, spare PRC-77 battery, a lightweight XM-28 gas mask and three types of survival radios: the URC-10, the URC-64 and the URC-90.

The LRRP is wearing ERDL camouflage with M1967 gear and a tropical rucksack. Note that the XM-177 (called the CAR-15 in that era) has no sling, as slings snag on foliage.
