‼️Bolster pillows‼️ can pose several risks for babies, especially infants under one year old. Here's why:
‼️1. Suffocation Hazard
Babies, particularly those under 12 months, lack the strength and coordination to move their heads effectively if their face becomes pressed against a pillow or bolster. This can block their airway, leading to suffocation.
‼️2. Increased Risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Soft bedding, including pillows and bolsters, is associated with an increased risk of SIDS. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends keeping the baby's sleep area free of pillows, blankets, and soft objects.
‼️3. Entrapment
A baby might become wedged between the bolster and another surface, such as a crib wall or mattress. This can restrict their movement and breathing.
Safe Sleeping Guidelines for Babies:
💚Place the baby on their back to sleep.
💚Use a firm, flat mattress in a safety-approved crib or bassinet.
💚Avoid pillows, bolsters, stuffed toys, or any soft bedding in the baby's sleep space.
💚Keep the room at a comfortable temperature to prevent overheating.
Following these guidelines ensures a safer sleep environment for infants.
