Being a "panganay" is so hard.

We always have the biggest and heaviest role in the family. We are expected to be the "breadwinner". We should be the "perfect" example to our younger siblings. We need to be "cautious" of our words and actions. We should be "polite" all the time. As if it's a sin for us to be seen as a weak person. We should never let our emotions out. We should not disappoint anyone.

But, not all the times we have the strength to go every single day. We do have our own share of struggles. We cry at night in our own room unable to share to anyone our feelings. We reprimanded our own selves when things get out of hand (especially when it comes to our siblings and parents). We always keep in our selves the things that hurt and pain us. We do not speak of our struggle.

Why am I saying these things? Because I want to be the voice of those "panganay" who are struggling right now for their family; to those people who are working hard day and night.

A simple "hello, kumusta?" Or "okay ka lang?" can make our day. Because those simple words will remind us that we have a reason to keep going and they are always in our back to support us. It reminds us that we are not alone in our fight.

We always say this to our selves "Kapag may kailangan ako, kanino ako pwedeng tumakbo?" And it hurts that nothing in our mind can we found comfort while struggling. A simple "thank you" can lift up a part of the burden we are carrying. So, please let your "panganay" be reminded that you are there for a support. They needed it badly.

We all have that treasured childhood photo that surely gives you a good laugh whenever it pops in your memory album. The ”payatot” and dark-skinned days, which I actually don’t mind back then. My Inay always says “Maganda ka anak”, which I of course believe. Pero Inay, parang hindi naman po. Ay kaitim ko po e😂😂😂

Just like fashionable clothes and trends back then, which we can’t afford, there are no papaya soaps nor any whitening bars or lotions in our house. In fairness ang lakas ng loob kong mag shorts🤪😂. I was 11 years old in my before photo and a proud 50ish now. How time flies! It just reminds us to stay happy, be content and pray that today is the best moment of our lives.

We love fashion, we all want to see that we’re beautiful and happy. These mirror selfies are also self expression. Most posts are public, but it doesn’t necessarily means that I am showing my all. I still have my privacy that’s why mirror Selfies are mostly with hidden faces. You may see the happy, jolly me, but still you don’t know me.

I try not to care about what other people think about me. I hate to waste time explaining and convincing them to appreciate me. At the end of the day what matters most are those people who stood beside you, loves you and accepts you for who you are. I know myself better than anyone.

Family and friends are usually the next person who should know you well. And I appreciate those who says THEY KNOW ME. I thank you for staying true, for silently supporting me on all of my endeavours. YOU know who you are. I love you❤️

A walk in the morning is surely one important way to spend “me time”. The 5000-7000 steps in an hour or two of walking burns calories that a “lazy 50ish” should do now a days. This pandemic taught us not only to love ourselves but to stay healthy and safe as always. It can also help in lessening mood swings and anxiety (I hope so😜😂).
