Writing
Sultan Mehmed and the Fall of Constantinople
English Story
The first four Caliphs of Islam — Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali (RA) — led the Muslims to remarkable victories. Within a few decades, the mighty Persian Empire was defeated, and its capital fell into Muslim hands. Large parts of the Roman Empire were also conquered. However, one city remained unconquered: Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire.
Constantinople was one of the strongest cities in the world. Surrounded by water on three sides and protected by massive walls on the land side, it seemed impossible to capture. For centuries, Muslim rulers dreamed of conquering it, inspired by a famous prophecy that praised the army and commander who would one day achieve this victory.
Many Muslim leaders tried. Armies marched toward the city, fleets surrounded it, and great battles were fought. Yet every attempt failed. The giant chain stretched across the entrance of the Golden Horn prevented enemy ships from entering the city's harbor, and the enormous walls stopped every assault.
Centuries passed.
Then a new power emerged: the Ottoman Empire. Among its rulers was Sultan Murad II, who longed to conquer Constantinople but could not achieve his dream. His son, Prince Mehmed, grew up hearing stories about the city and his father's unfulfilled ambition.
When Mehmed was only nineteen years old, he became Sultan after his father's death. Many European rulers laughed at the young ruler, believing he was too inexperienced to be a threat. Even some of his own advisors underestimated him.
But Mehmed had a vision.
He declared that he would either conquer Constantinople or spend his life trying. Before launching his campaign, he secured peace with neighboring states and strengthened his empire. He then built a powerful fortress near Constantinople, cutting off supplies to the city.
Mehmed also gathered a huge army and a powerful navy. Most importantly, he employed a brilliant engineer named Orban, who designed one of the largest cannons the world had ever seen. The massive cannon could fire enormous stone balls capable of damaging walls that had stood for a thousand years.
In 1453, Mehmed marched toward Constantinople with tens of thousands of soldiers. The city was defended by Emperor Constantine XI and brave commanders determined to resist.
The siege began.
Ottoman ships attempted to enter the Golden Horn but were blocked by the famous chain. Assaults against the walls were repelled. Tunnels dug beneath the city were discovered and destroyed.
Despite these setbacks, Mehmed refused to give up.
Then he came up with an extraordinary plan. Instead of sailing his ships through the harbor entrance, he ordered them to be transported over land. Hundreds of workers pulled ships across greased wooden tracks over hills and into the waters behind the chain.
When the defenders woke up, they were shocked to see Ottoman ships where they had never expected them.
The siege tightened.
Day and night, the giant cannons pounded the walls. Gradually, cracks appeared. The defenders repaired them repeatedly, but the pressure continued to grow.
Finally, on 29 May 1453, the Ottomans launched their final assault. After fierce fighting, Ottoman forces broke through the defenses. Emperor Constantine XI died defending his city.
Constantinople had fallen.
At only twenty-one years of age, Sultan Mehmed achieved what many rulers before him had failed to accomplish. He became known as Mehmed the Conqueror (Mehmed Fatih).
The city was later known as Istanbul and became one of the greatest centers of the Muslim world. The conquest changed world history forever and marked the end of the Byzantine Empire.
Roman Urdu Story
Islam ke pehle chaar Khulafa-e-Rashideen — Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Usman aur Hazrat Ali (R.A.) — ne Musalmanon ko azeem fatahat dilain. Kuch hi dahaiyon mein Farsi Saltanat shikast kha gayi aur us ka dar-ul-hukumat Musalmanon ke qabze mein aa gaya. Roman Saltanat ke bohat se ilaqe bhi fatah ho gaye. Lekin ek shehar aisa tha jo Musalman fatah na kar sake: Constantinople.
Constantinople duniya ke mazboot tareen shehron mein se ek tha. Teen taraf samandar aur ek taraf buland deewaron ne ise qareeban na-qabil-e-fatah bana diya tha. Sadiyon tak Musalman hukmaran is shehar ko fatah karne ka khwab dekhte rahe.
Kai Musalman badshahon ne koshish ki. Lashkaron ne hamlay kiye, jahazi behron ne shehar ka ghera kiya, magar har martaba nakaami hui. Golden Horn par lagi bari zanjeer aur shehar ki mazboot deewarein har hamlay ko rok deti thin.
Phir sadiyan guzar gayin.
Aakhir ek nai taqat ubhar kar saamne aayi: Saltanat-e-Usmania. Is saltanat ke Sultan Murad II bhi Constantinople ko fatah karna chahte thay, lekin apna khwab poora na kar sake.
Jab Mehmed ki umar sirf unnees saal thi, to woh apne walid ke inteqal ke baad Sultan ban gaya. Europe ke hukmaran us ka mazaq urate thay aur use ek tajurbaheen jawan samajhte thay. Yahan tak ke us ke kuch wazir bhi use sanjeedgi se nahin lete thay.
Lekin Mehmed ke paas ek bada khwab tha.
Us ne faisla kiya ke ya to woh Constantinople fatah karega ya phir apni poori zindagi is maqsad ke liye laga dega.
Zameen ke neeche banayi gayi surangein bhi daryaft kar li gayin.
Lekin Mehmed ne himmat nahin hari.
Phir us ne ek hairat angez mansuba banaya. Us ne apne jahazon ko samandar ke bajaye pahari raston se guzarte hue zameen par khinch kar Golden Horn ke andar utar diya.
Jab shehar ke difa karne walon ne subah aankh kholi to woh heran reh gaye.
Muhasra mazeed sakht ho gaya.
Raat din bari topen deewaron par gole barsati rahin. Aahista aahista deewaron mein daraarein parne lagin. Difa karne wale unhein baar baar theek karte rahe magar dabao barhta gaya.
Aakhir 29 May 1453 ko Usmani fauj ne aakhri hamla kiya. Sakht jang ke baad Usmani sipahi shehar ke andar dakhil ho gaye. Badshah Constantine XI ladte hue mara gaya.
Constantinople fatah ho chuka tha.
Isi wajah se use Mehmed Fatih yani "Mehmed the Conqueror" kaha gaya.
Baad mein yahi shehar Istanbul ke naam se mashhoor hua aur Muslim duniya ke azeem markazon mein shamil ho gaya. Is fatah ne duniya ki tareekh ka rukh hamesha ke liye badal diya.

Raaste mein unka qafila Karbala ke maidan mein rok diya gaya. Wahan unke saathiyon ko pani se mehroom kar diya gaya, lekin phir bhi unhon ne sabr aur himmat ka daman nahin chhoda.
10 Muharram ke din, Imam Hussainؓ ke wafadar saathi ek ek karke haq ki raah mein qurban hote gaye. Aakhir mein Imam Hussainؓ ne bhi bahaduri, sabr aur sachai ki misaal qaim karte hue apni jaan Allah ki raza ke liye qurban kar di.
Ashura ka paigham yeh hai ke insaan ko hamesha sach, insaf aur haqq ke saath khara rehna chahiye, chahe mushkilat kitni hi badi kyun na hon.
