BREAKING: A man has died after falling from a tree in Pakel Akot, Gokrial West County

Residents of Pakel Akot in Gokrial West County are mourning the loss of their loved one, who tragically fell from a tree this morning.

Speaking to Aweil News Agency, John Garang Madut, a relative of the deceased, identified the victim as Awan Monydeng. He explained that Monydeng fell while attempting to cut wooden bundles for house construction.

“Yes, indeed, we have lost Awan as a result of him climbing the tree, he fell and was found dead under the tree,” he said.

Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk has refused to apologize for controversial remarks in which he suggested South Sudanese should eat dogs, cats, frogs, and lizards, and described citizens as “lazy.”

Speaking after backlash, Kuol said:

> “I don't need to apologize. I am happy that people are discussing my statement… let them talk, and talk and talk.”

The remarks were originally made during prayers for the late Bishop Nathaniel Garang.

The comments have sparked widespread outrage across South Sudan, with activists, comedians, and citizens condemning the statements as disrespectful and out of touch with the country’s ongoing challenges.

Many South Sudanese are now urging the government to focus on pressing national issues, including improving security, restoring stability, boosting agriculture, and creating economic opportunities in Juba, instead of engaging in divisive rhetoric.

Critics argue that such remarks from a senior advisor reflect a disconnect from the realities facing ordinary citizens, with some calling the situation a “national embarrassment.”

Public debate continues to intensify as reactions pour in from across the country.

This is a senior Al-Shabaab commander who was captured in a joint counterterrorism operation in Somalia.

The coordinated operation, carried out by elite elements of the Somali National Army (SNA) specifically the 203rd Unit of the 20th Brigade of the Gorgor Commandos, resulted in the arrest of a high-value target identified as Salaad Macalin Cusmaan Cabdiyow, also known as “Salaad Dheere.”

The planned, intelligence-led raid took place in the village of Soo-Maray, approximately 5 kilometers west of Mubaarak in the Lower Shabelle region.

His capture represents a significant tactical and operational success for Somali and African Union forces, as he was considered a persistent and high-threat figure within the insurgency network in Lower Shabelle.🙌

The President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, has issued Presidential Decrees effecting partial changes in the government of Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

In Presidential Decrees No. 36, dated January 22, 2026, President Kiir relieved the following officials from their duties:

1. Hon. Khamis Dhahia Omer, from his position as State Advisor on Economic Affairs
2. Hon. Robert Kornelio Ambar, from his position as Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement
3. Hon. Akol Majok Rok, from his position as Minister of Trade, Industry and Mining

In the another Presidential No. 37, the President appointed:
1. Hon. Robert Kornelio Ambar as State Advisor for Economic Affairs
2. Hon. Akol Majok Rok as Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement
3. Hon. Khamis Dhahia Omer as Minister of Trade, Industry and Mining.

All the appointed officials are members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party.
