There are certain days and events that are reminder to Serve Humanity- As many of our brothers and sisters around the world celebrate the festival of lights, Diwali, 32 million Sikhs around the world celebrate Bandi Chhorh Divas as well - the release of the sixth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Sri Guru Hargobind Singh Ji.
In 1619, the day of Diwali, the Mughals had released the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Singh ji. While Guru ji was getting released, he demanded Jahangir to release all the other Hindu Kings along with him.
Jahangir agreed, but with a condition that only as many kings could walk out of the jail as could hold onto the Guru’s cloak. It is believed that Guru Hargobind got a large cloak made to ensure that everyone could be released.
Thus along with Guruji, 52 kings were released from the prison and Sikhs celebrated the day as Bandi Chhorh Divas.
