The Golden Jubilee is currently the largest cut diamond in the world. It was discovered in 1985 in the prolific Premier Mine in South Africa. After the cutting the diamond weighed 545,67 carats (109,13 grams). The “Unnamed Brown”, as the Golden Jubilee was first known, was considered ideal to test new and complex equipment developed to cut diamonds.

To the surprise of all and thanks to the great skill of the cutter, the result of the operation was the largest faceted diamond in the world, with a yellow-brown colour, in a fine rose cushion cut. Subsequently the gem was transferred to Thailand to be exhibited at the Thai Board of Investment Exhibition.

The gem was presented to the King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, on the occasion of his 50th coronation anniversary from which the name derives. The diamond was mounted on the royal seal.
