Abeni; daughter of the seed, is a tribute to ah we Tobago woman; the bene ball has traveled from parts of Africa to find its home here in Trinidad and Tobago through the Trans Atlantic slave trade; whilst we may have lost many of our traditions, the tongue remembers..

Immersing myself in our carnival history has been so rewarding; the more I dug, the more alive I felt ... An ode to the rebel women of Trinidad carnival ... The Dammes, the Jammettes, the Pierrots ... Rein Pierrette reclaims that space as the Queen of the road.

MAMA DLO 🐍🌊
Protector of the waterways. Wife of Papa Bois. Guardian where river meets swamp.
Part woman, part serpent, part blue heron; scaled in mystery, winged in watchfulness, crowned in current. She moves like water, silent and knowing. Her eyes miss nothing.
Ancient as mangroves. Fierce in her protection. Sacred in her power.
Enter her waters with respect.
