Happy to share our collaboration with Lesiba Mabistela, (souvenirs_of_conflict) a South African Fashion
Practitioner on a series of clothes and these customs are part of this capsule collection. When
we met this year again during our collaborative workshop series, Lesela as a Calico, we had
deep conversations about textile making and local textiles including cotton and bark cloth
(Lubugo). This later culminated into an ongoing collaborative project PAMBA with Mona Okulla
Obua, .okulla.obua who is a German Ugandan video artist where we all create from with
in the Ugandan landscape to document but also to share the metaphoric and poetic surface of
cotton and land in Uganda. The material used in this work is purely 100% Ugandan Cotton which
is turned into fabric at TEXDA, . We had a lot of insight about textile
technologies and also interface with local workers that have decided to taken on the journey of
textile making for most time in their lives. These garments share a number of hands and
thoughts and we’re happy to also have our hands on this, slowly made but carefully thought of.
Special thanks to Mum Grace at TEXDA &
African Fashion Research Institute .

AFRIQUE NOIRE FEATURE
IN FRAME WITH MURUNGI
I'm Murungi Kevin, an artist based in Kampala Uganda. I archive Ugandan culture through clothing because of my mother who is a seamstress. I grew up seeing my mother make cloth from Kitenge and this inspired me to think about the future of African fabric hence starting the clothing brand Afro Muru. I would love to push my brand to bigger heights and that's why I c out for support from any person or organization that can feed into my vision. I would like to thank for initiating this call.

This editorial reflects the resilience of me as a fashion designer, It requires a lot of patience and inquisitiveness. There's no better way for me to reflect on this than with a pet name symbol given to me by my elder relatives. I continue to pursue this path despite the challenging times.

It's been a moment without sharing my progress. The symbol represented on the clothes is known as a pet name symbol from my tribe Banyoro and it's called Atwooki (shining star). I'm sharing my current experiments with dyed cotton fabric from which I made two pairs of trousers and these are blues and browns. On the other hand the shirts were canvas materials that I found interesting in Owino market, more experiments shall be shared later on.
