The International Crimes Division of the High Court has granted bail to former Butambala County MP and National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for the Central Region, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, in a case stemming from the January 2026 post-election violence in Butambala District.

The ruling marks a significant development in one of the country’s most closely watched post-election cases, with Kivumbi and several co-accused facing charges linked to violent incidents that occurred during the 2026 General Election period.

Justice Susan Okalany granted Kivumbi a cash bail of UGX 10 million, while 22 of his co-accused were each granted cash bail of UGX 1 million.

The court also bonded each accused person’s sureties at UGX 5 million non-cash and directed all suspects holding passports to surrender them to the court registrar.
In addition, Justice Okalany ordered that none of the accused should travel outside Uganda without prior permission from the court.

However, six co-accused remained on remand after the court ruled that their proposed sureties were inadequate. Their bail applications were deferred, and they are expected to return to court on 13 July 2027 with new sureties.

At least 14 people have been killed and 28 others injured following a devastating road traffic crash at Bobi Trading Centre along the Kampala–Gulu Highway. The collision, which occurred on the night of July 7, has once again raised concerns over speeding and road safety on one of Uganda’s busiest transport corridors.

According to preliminary police reports, the crash involved an Isuzu passenger bus operated by OPIT Travellers Company and a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer. Authorities say investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

Police said the crash happened at around 9:34 p.m. at Bobi Trading Centre when the Isuzu bus, registration UBE 110H, allegedly attempted to avoid a pedestrian crossing the highway.

Preliminary findings indicate that the bus driver, who is suspected to have been speeding, lost control of the vehicle before colliding head-on with the oncoming Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer, registration KBS 564D/ZE 7948.
The impact of the collision left multiple passengers trapped in the wreckage as emergency responders rushed to the scene.

The Association has officially brought back AdNites, reviving one of Uganda’s most recognisable networking platforms for the advertising and creative communications industry. Held at Nyama, the return of the event drew agency leaders, creatives, media personalities, freelancers and emerging talent for an evening centered on networking, collaboration and industry connection.

The comeback signals a renewed push by UAA to strengthen relationships across Uganda’s advertising ecosystem at a time when the industry continues to evolve through digital transformation, changing consumer trends and increased demand for creative innovation.

For many within the industry, AdNites was once more than a social gathering. It served as a regular meeting point where ideas were exchanged, partnerships formed and professional relationships built beyond office spaces and client pitches.

Uganda has postponed this year’s Martyrs Day celebrations after President Yoweri Museveni announced a temporary suspension of the annual pilgrimage due to growing concerns over the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The decision, announced on Sunday following consultations with the national epidemic response task force and religious leaders, is expected to significantly impact regional travel, tourism, religious gatherings, and public health preparedness across East Africa.

The move comes as Uganda braces for increased cross-border movement from the affected areas in eastern DRC, where authorities in Ituri province have reported hundreds of suspected Ebola cases and dozens of deaths. The annual Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations, held every June 3 at Namugongo, traditionally attract millions of pilgrims from Uganda and neighboring countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
