Reborn Rescue Conducting Organized Search for Missing Rescue Dog
Community Asked to Report Sightings, Not Approach Dog
GOLF COURSE ROAD AREA (Running Scared)
ALPENA, MI — Reborn Rescue will be conducting an organized search effort today, Friday, July 17, beginning at 6:00 PM to safely locate and capture a missing rescue dog that has been on the run since last Friday.

The dog is a 5-month-old, approximately 35-pound black Lab/German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix with upright ears and is wearing a red collar.

This young dog is extremely fearful of people. He was rescued from an abandoned home where he had been left to die alongside his mother and three littermates. Because of his traumatic past, he is likely to flee if approached.

Reborn Rescue volunteers will be wearing highly visible neon green/yellow shirts so the public can easily identify members of the search team. Volunteers have developed a strategic plan for the dog's safe capture and will be working together throughout the evening.

We kindly ask the community to assist by following these important guidelines: DO NOT call, chase, or attempt to capture the dog. Report sightings immediately by calling 989-590-7603 or messaging Reborn Rescue on Facebook.

If you see the organized search party in your neighborhood, please do not join the search or intervene. Our trained volunteers have a coordinated plan in place to maximize the chances of a safe recovery.

As volunteers search, they may be walking through neighborhoods and, where appropriate, seeking permission to access areas where the dog has been spotted. Our intent is never to trespass or disturb property owners. Every effort will be made to respect private property while prioritizing the safe recovery of this frightened rescue dog.

We sincerely appreciate the patience, support, and understanding the Alpena community has shown throughout this search. With everyone's cooperation, we are hopeful this young dog will soon be safely back in our care.

🚨 KRATOS UPDATE – DAY 6 🚨
Kratos is still on the move, and we need your help to bring him home safely.
📍 Most recent sighting: Wednesday, July 15, 2026, on French Rd.
📞 If you see Kratos, please call Reborn Rescue immediately at 989-590-7603.
Do not chase him or call out to him. Kratos is in survival mode, and even the kindest intentions can cause him to run farther.
Kratos has been missing since Thursday, July 9, 2026, after escaping from Island View Dr. He is a 5-month-old black German Shepherd/Lab/Pit Bull mix wearing a red collar and may still be dragging a blue leash.
Over the past six days, Courtney, Andrea, and I have dedicated countless hours responding to every reported sighting. We have walked miles through woods, fields, and rivers. We've set live traps, searched day and night, and have been within feet of Kratos more times than we can count. Unfortunately, dogs in survival mode don't think like family pets—they think only about staying alive.
We also want to share something many people may not realize.
Reborn Rescue is not a shelter. We are a foster-based rescue. Every dog that comes into our care must have an immediate placement because we don't have a kennel facility where dogs can spend months decompressing before entering a home.
Many of the dogs we rescue have experienced unimaginable trauma. They are not "typical" dogs. Some come from severe hoarding situations with little to no human interaction. Others, like Kratos, were abandoned and left to die.
Kratos and his three siblings were found abandoned in an empty house alongside their mother. Before coming to us, he never knew what safety, consistency, or love truly felt like. Healing from that kind of trauma doesn't happen overnight, it takes months of patience, trust, and rehabilitation.
Every dog that has escaped from our care has been one of our most challenging behavioral cases, not because anyone failed them, but because trauma runs deep. Recovery isn't linear, and even when these dogs begin to trust, fear can still take over in an instant.
We know everyone wants Kratos home. We do too.
We're exhausted. We're heartbroken. We're still running the rescue every single day because the dogs in our care still need food, medical care, and a safe place to land. Our veterinary bills, facility expenses, and daily responsibilities don't stop while we're searching.
What keeps us going is the incredible support from this community.
So today, we're asking for three things:
❤️ Please continue sharing Kratos' photo.
❤️ Please report every sighting immediately.
❤️ Please continue to show grace, encouragement, and kindness to the people working tirelessly to bring him home.
❤️Thank you for standing with Reborn Rescue.

🎉🐾 One Year of Reborn Rescue 🐾🎉
Today, my heart is overflowing with gratitude as we celebrate our first anniversary.
🐶🐾 These are not just numbers. They are lives. Every dog rescued, every family created, every rehabilitation, reminds us why we do this.
I certainly did not do this alone.
💞To my incredible supervisors, Andrea and Courtney, a simple thank you, will never be enough. Your time, dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment never go unnoticed. Rescue is not for the weak, and we've experienced both the hardest days and the most rewarding moments together. I couldn't ask for a better team beside me.
🐶💉A thank you to our irreplaceable veterinarian, Dr. Jordan Guy. You have taught me so much over this past year, and Reborn Rescue simply would not exist without you. We always joke that "we need a reality show." Maybe someday we'll get one!
🤗 Thank you as well to Dr. Chelsea, Huron Veterinary Clinic, and Atlanta Veterinary Clinic for your incredible partnerships and your willingness to take on the more difficult procedures our rescue dogs need. Your compassion has helped save countless lives.
🤝 Our shelter partners Genessee County Animal Care, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, Detroit Animal Care and Control and Cheboygan County Humane Society. We thank you for all the dogs we have transferred to you from our area, that no other shelter would take. As well as calling on our rescue and trusting us with transfers.
🏠 Over the last year, we've built so much more than a rescue, we've built a family. A community of volunteers, fosters, adopters, donors, business partners, and friends who continue to believe in our mission.
👏🏼When the days are long and the challenges feel overwhelming, it's all of you who keep us going. Your encouragement reminds us that this work matters.

You are part of every life we've been able to save.
💞This rescue belongs to all of us.💞
And while we're known as a dog rescue, our mission reaches even further. Through our Healing Paws Project, we've had more than 50 individuals participate in animal-assisted therapy while recovering from substance use disorder. Watching the healing that happens on both ends of the leash has been one of the greatest things we have witnessed.
🖤Finally, to my husband, my children, my family, and my friends, thank you. There have been many days when I had to ask you to step in and carry responsibilities so I could answer another rescue call, save another life, or simply keep going. Your love and support have made this possible, and I will never take that for granted.
💞My heart is so full today.
Here's to every wagging tail, every happy ending, every lesson learned, and every person who believed in us from the beginning. Even the ones who didn’t believe in us, you only made us stronger.
🐾🎉 We're just getting started. 🙌
Team Reborn Rescue isn't going anywhere, we're here to stay. 🖤- Shan - CEO & Founder

💕 FOSTER UPDATE 💕 MAMA 💕
Just over a month ago, Mama was found wandering the streets of Flint with only one tiny puppy faithfully following behind her. We can only imagine what she had endured.
💕 Our incredible partners at Genesee County Animal Care knew they needed a rescue to step in, and that's when Mama made her way to Reborn Rescue.
💕 Fast forward to today…
Mama is absolutely thriving in her foster home with Jenny, and it truly feels like they were meant to find each other.
💕 Jenny shared:
"It's like my soul dog, Stella, sent her to me. She does so many things that remind me of Stella."
💕 Stories like this are exactly why fostering is so powerful. Not only does it save a dog's life, but sometimes it helps heal a heart, too.
💕 Mama adores her family and simply wants to be wherever they are. Whether she's playing in the yard, or curled up beside them for a cozy snuggle. She has embraced this new chapter with so much love, and watching her blossom has been nothing short of incredible.
🐾 Most of the dogs we rescue are 30 pounds and under, with only occasional exceptions for special situations.
🐾 If you've ever thought about fostering, now is the perfect time. You provide the love and a safe place to land, we provide the veterinary care, supplies, guidance, and support.
💕 Together, we can change lives, one dog at a time.

🐾ADOPTION!: Jake Has Found His Forever Home! ❤️
Some dogs just need a little extra time and Jake is the perfect example.

This tiny, shy little guy arrived with a heart full of love, but it took him about a week to feel safe enough to let his personality shine. With patience, kindness, and the comfort of his foster home, Jake slowly came out of his shell. Before long, it was clear that he had found exactly where he belonged.

His new sister, Phoebe, was more than happy to welcome him into the family (while making sure everyone knew she was still in charge with her big personality! 😄).

As Jake settled in, something even more special happened, his foster, Elizabeth, fell completely in love with him. Once Jake was fully vetted, she made it official and finalized his adoption in June!

We couldn't be happier for Jake. His journey reminds us that sometimes the best things in life are worth waiting for, and all it takes is one person willing to give a shy dog the time and love they deserve.

Congratulations to Jake, Phoebe and Elizabeth! Thank you for opening your heart and home to this sweet boy. Wishing you all a lifetime of love, cuddles, and happy memories. ❤️🏡🐾
