Rolling a quilt! That first roll is always my favorite… well other than the last one, that is! It’s when you can see a whole pass and get your first glimpse of what it’s really going to look like on the quilt, not just the screen.

A set of sibling quilts! Design choices make all the difference. Since both quilts had quite a few jerseys in common, and I was worried they would end up looking too similar. By featuring different colors, the quilts ended up unique but coordinating, even with the same fabric used throughout. If you have any shirts you’d like made into a quilt, I would love to transform them for you! As a reminder, I also do computer longarm quilting and binding, so I’m here for all your quilting needs!

It’s been a while! I’ve been very busy with projects, and here’s one of my favorites I’ve ever done. This customer came to me asking if I could make two quilts from some old clothes her mother had made her from her pageant days. She wanted one for her and one for her mom to be able to share those memories together again instead of being stored in a box. I ended up with crash course in Yup’ik textile and sewing history as she taught me that these clothes were a traditional garment called a kuspuk and I realized I wanted to be able to honor the original makers and methods the best I could. I was able to carefully salvage pieces of hand designed trim along with the fabric, and I even got to use traditional design principles for the border of the quilt. This was also my first time hand drawing and digitizing the pattern for my longarm to use, as I took the weaving pattern the the weavers in the village she grew up in have been using for centuries and made it into the quilting design. My finishing touch was using a piped binding in black and white as the material used for the trim in these garments was seal skin dyed black and white, and I wanted to honor that too. Overall this is one of the projects I’m most proud of, and it was so much fun! A tshirt quilt doesn’t have to be just tshirts, it can be made of any clothing, and I’m so excited to have given these a new life.

Finally dug through that bin of old t shirts and made this as a gift for Christmas! We had our Christmas with family early and I definitely got some tears with this one, so that’s a win in my book!
