PATTERN DRAFTING COURSE starts next week! ⁠

Learn how to create your own clothes from fashion designer Tabitha Fielteau in a small group of up to four students. ⁠
⁠
In this 4-week class, you will learn how to create a pant sloper, which serves as the foundational basis for any pant pattern—whether you want to design flared, wide, or straight-leg styles. We will draft a 2D pattern based on your custom measurements, test the fit using muslin, and make all the necessary pattern corrections. ⁠

This class requires previous machine sewing knowledge, but no previous pattern drafting experience is needed. ⁠

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: MIDDLE GRACE JEWELRY⁠

Wendy Grace began making jewelry in 2013, after seeing a stunning ring on her friend’s finger. She immediately signed up for the metal-smith class she was taking and has been hooked ever since. For years she made jewelry just for herself and friends and family. In 2022, she made big life changes. She left the hospitality industry after 25 years in Atlanta and moved to Athens to be close to her aging parents. Her mom passed away in 2024, and now she helps take care of her dad, and makes jewelry all the time. ⁠

Her inventory is constantly changing, as each item is hand-made, and no two pieces are exactly the same. She focuses on modern mixed metals and loves putting silver and gold together, creating everyday wearable pieces. ⁠

We now have select rings, earrings, and necklaces at COMMUNITY (and a few online, more coming soon).⁠

We have one spot left for our Basics of Garment Construction sewing course with Nissa McKinney that starts on Wednesday! ⁠

Basics of Garment Construction will teach you how to...⁠
⁠
use a commercial sewing pattern, including choosing a size, making alterations to the pattern, and learning what all the pattern markings mean,⁠
choose the right fabric for your garment, and⁠
assemble a garment with darts, add pockets (on some versions), complete different seam finishes like French seams, and learn how to use bias tape or facings to finish necklines.⁠
In this class, students will make the Cielo Dress or Top (or both if you finish early!) from Closet Core Patterns. This easy take on a boxy tee and shift dress is highly customizable with different sleeve options like a dramatic lantern or a short, cuffed sleeve.⁠

Zippers don’t have to be intimidating! In this hands-on workshop, we’ll take the mystery out of three common zipper applications: regular, invisible, and exposed zippers.⁠

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have three zipper samples to keep as a reference plus a finished project and, most importantly, the confidence to tackle zippers in future sewing projects.⁠

This is the seventh season that we have been taking care of the Georgia Football jerseys. In preparation for the season we add name plates and graduate patches, then we repair the jerseys after every game. ⁠
⁠
In recent years we have also been increasingly customizing the jerseys for the individual players to give more room for movement or add padding for protection to allow ultimate performance. ⁠
⁠
Having this small contribution to sustainability in the world of sports makes us further aware that mending and making clothing last does not just help the environment, but it changes our relationship with the garments. Rather than being a throwaway after the game, at the end of the season, the jerseys show battle scars and become a memory map of the moments that made all the difference. ⁠
