The biggest nightmare of any immigrant in this country is waking up to text messages from friends and family saying, “This happened, but I’m okay.”
And then not being able to hug them. Not being able to be there. And the inevitable spiral of what if?
That has been our reality as Colombians over the past few weeks, and I’d be remiss not to say a few words as the owner of a brand that celebrates the people, artistry, and culture I love so dearly.
We have trembled, cried, unified, supported one another, and rejoiced with every rescue and every bit of help that has reached the places that need it most. But of course, it never feels like enough when you’re doing what you can from afar.
As I’ve reflected on all of this, I keep coming back to why Selva de Oro exists in the first place.
Now, more than ever, it matters where and from whom we choose to buy. It matters that we support the hands of the men and women who create beautiful things to feed their families. It matters that we choose small-batch and handmade over mass-produced goods and the devastating environmental impact that comes with them.
And so we remain deeply committed to the people, craftsmanship, and purpose at the heart of Selva de Oro. What started as a way to celebrate Colombian artistry has only made me more certain that this is the future I want to help build.
