I’m not a particularly sentimental person (and haven’t saved the majority of these things) but this little credentials college in my workshop always makes me smile.

Indigo on 12 x 12 linen. This was made with the mokume Shibori technique. The wood grain texture comes from row after row of tightly packed running stitches creating the design, and bound tight before vat dying.

After six weeks on the road we are finally back in Atlanta! I am taking the rest of the month off from events BUT you can still get your fix two ways: i’ll be posting new stuff to stories over the next few days that you can snag at a discount, porch pick up or shipped anywhere in the US for an extra $4. Last Friday, there was a tornado warning while I was working my booth with my boys at the Peach Music Festival. All the vendors scrambled to bring in their wares and hang sidewalls while festival attendees evacuated to the Lodge. I needed to secure my booth - my livelihood - but couldn’t put my kids at risk so I ran them to the lodge and had them sit against a wall in a safe spot next to another family with small children. I told them I would be right back and they needed to stay exactly where they were. I knew they would be safe, but it was awful leaving them in that moment. I returned to find them boasting butterfly stickers gifted from other kids, fully engrossed in an epic folktale a kind stranger was telling to distract them, and I was overcome by the kindness around me. I took this picture of the moment.
On Monday, I spent the day hearing how my childhood friends grabbed their children to flee a gunman on the streets I where I grew up. I read about a father putting his young child in a dumpster to stay safe while he searched for the rest of the family, separated in the chaos. I keep seeing the fear in my kids eyes when I had to leave them - in much friendlier surroundings.
Today, I am grateful to lie in bed watching cartoons sandwiched between my boys - we call it the pickle in the middle - and mourn for the senseless loss of life, the loss of innocence and all the pain suffered in Highland Park.
Just Peachy!
All set up at the in Chicago! Come say hi!
We booked some additional festival dates and need to restock from the road. So my question is this: if housekeeping comes through, will I get thrown out or will they just be relieved I’m not disposing of a body in here, what with the plastic sheeting lining the tub and my hundred trips to the ice machine?
Last week I had the honor of leading all the kids in my son’s school - Little Forest School - in tie dying their new school shirts for the end of year fire ceremony. It was bittersweet as we’ll be moving on to public pre-k next year and I have so much love for our Little Forest family, but seeing all the kiddos lighting up in their new tie dyes filled me with so much joy!!
Dudes. I know. Not enough ridiculous formalwear. I hear you and I’ve got you with big dude and little dude button downs. This weekend at the Shakedown Music and Art Festival at the Orange Beach Wharf and next week at Deer Creek.
My 6 year old was absolutely transfixed by the light show. “The lights match the music! Does the light guy have the thing I have? He must!!” So we went to the light board and asked if he had Synesthesia. He said, what’s that? I explained it’s where your senses kind of cross - you might taste a word or see music. He said, absolutely!! Thank you .kuroda You have no idea how much that meant to my son! 💙⭕️💙
