Our friends at Bloom Baby are back for a special class for our littlest Munchkins and their grown-ups! Registration required.

And rumor has it, a few pretty princesses aren't far behind! 👑✨

There's a whole lot of make-believe happening at Modern Munchkin, and we've got something NEW for our little adventurers!

Just in time for spooky season, we've added a BRAND NEW dress-up section to the shop, filled with costumes, accessories and endless possibilities for BIG imaginations!

Because when munckins dress up, they're doing so much more than putting on a costume. They're creating stories, exploring new roles, building confidence, and discovering just how far their imaginations can take them.

HI, I'M WHITNEY! 👋💕

I figured it was time for a little introduction to the person behind Modern Munchkin!

I'm a Baton Rouge girl, born and raised, a wife, a mom to two pretty wonderful kiddos (one boy and one girl), and the owner of a small but mighty toy boutique right here in Mid City.

But there's a whole lot more to me than toys! So, here are a few things you might not know about me. ✨

☕ My perfect day starts with a slow morning, hot coffee, and nowhere we absolutely HAVE to be. Bonus points for a walk with our pup, Marzi, a little antique shopping, and mahjong with friends!

🍝 I'm a BIG foodie. I love trying new restaurants and cuisines, and I'm convinced food is the sixth love language.

🧵 I'm a serial hobbyist! My current obsessions are hand embroidery, sewing, and making beaded necklaces. My only problem is finding enough hours in the day. 😂

✈️ I LOVE to travel, but I dread flying. Unfortunately, I hate driving even more. Make that make sense!

And here's something that might surprise you: before Modern Munchkin, I spent 12 years working in business operations for engineering consulting firms.

I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and always dreamed of owning my own business. I just never imagined it would be a toy store!

Walking away from a career that looked great on paper was scary, but it taught me a lot about what matters most.

Family. Creativity. Community. And raising good humans. 💕

Being a mom has changed the way I look at just about everything. Of course, I want my kids to work hard and chase their goals. But more than anything, I want them to grow into kind, curious, thoughtful people who care for others.

And that's a big part of why I believe so deeply in the power of PLAY.

We're excited to welcome Art Talk + DSAG for a special day of creativity, connection and FUN! Registration is required for workshop participation.

Our first Shop PopUp! of October is going to be a delicious one! Our friends at MILK’D Custom Ice Creams & Desserts are popping up inside MM, bringing a little extra sweetness to our Saturday. 💕

BIG BOY TOYS. BIG TIME FUN! 💙

As a mom of a boy, one thing that's really important to me is making sure Modern Munchkin has plenty of FUN for the bigger kids, too!

There's this funny stage of childhood when they're getting a little too old for the toys they used to love, but they're definitely not too old to PLAY. And as my son grows, I'm reminded just how important it is to keep giving him opportunities to do exactly that.

I want him outside, making up games, challenging his friends, trying something new and finding ways to have FUN that don't always involve a screen.

That's why I'm always on the hunt for toys and games that our older Munchkins will actually get excited about! 🥏

We've been stocking up on some seriously FUN finds for boys, including backyard games, flying javelins, lawn darts, active-play favorites and a few games that might bring out everyone's competitive side. 😂

And trust me, these aren't just for the kids. Some of these are going to have the dads joining in pretty quickly, too!

Because growing up shouldn't mean growing out of play. 🎯

Why We Love: Building Sets 🧲🏗️💕

At Modern Munchkin, we believe the best toys do more than entertain. They help children grow.

And building sets are one of our FAVORITE ways to put that into action. ✨

There’s something pretty magical about handing a Munchkin a pile of pieces and watching their imagination take over. Suddenly, magnetic tiles are a castle, a handful of shapes becomes a Mars rover, and a few tubes and balls turn into an elaborate experiment taking over the playroom. 😂

But while they’re busy building, creating, knocking it down and starting all over again, so much learning is happening along the way. Building play encourages problem solving, spatial thinking, creativity, fine motor skills and that very important little voice that says, “Wait... I have another idea!” 💡

We especially love building sets because there’s rarely just ONE way to play. Brands like Connetix, Clixo and Fat Brain Toys give Munchkins the pieces, then let their imaginations decide what happens next.

And the best part? These are the toys that can grow right alongside them. Today it’s a simple tower. Tomorrow, it’s a very complicated invention with a VERY important backstory. 😉
